Find Ancestors

MARIA GANT born 1806, 1841 census states she was born in South America but a British Subject. Was this because she married ISAAC BURRELL born c1786 - a soldier, around 1828 when their first child was born. I can find no trace of her birth or their marriage. I need some help with tracing Maria in South America (which country?). Were they married perhaps in that country? They eventually settled in Lewes, Sussex, where all their children were born. There is no trace of Maria after the centus of 1851. Did she return to her birth country?

Have you checked the Military BMD's on FMP?

There is a high chance as bitish subjects they married on 'British' soil while over there and that the marriage will be on the BMD.

The fact she was a British subject suggests either she was born over there while her father was maybe serving? Or indeed she has become a British subject upon marrying her husband, there will no doubt be someone along who can confirm this.

Are you sure she's issing off the 1851 and that she's not just mistranscribed? Can you find her husband?

What are the names of their children? Can you please post any census details you have, this will help us to help you

I don't no, we have her now right upto 1881 and as a 74 yr old would she have travelled?
