Birth certificates available from

www.gro.gov.uk....on the form say that you have the reference and put in the information I have given.

Cost £7 (GB) with the reference.

Pam

Pam Report 16 Jul 2008 09:38

This is the 1871 census for that family with William. There is another child named James aged 1 who does not appear on the 1881 census. I will check deaths.

Pam

Pam Report 16 Jul 2008 09:34

If I am correct these are not step brothers but brothers. Could you be confusing the first name James as a surname.?

If I were you...if you have Ancestry...contact the owners of the two private trees with Frank on them as I believe they are related.

Hi:

There was a step bro called Arthur too .... so this could be right....well done.

Margaret.

Hi:

Just got in from the grocery run.

I have this:

William Brown's mother was Nellie Brown. William was her first child and then her husband died when William was a baby. His mother, Nellie, remarried to a James. So William Brown had step brothers - Abraham James, Alfred James, Arthur James.

I am thinking that she became Nellie James ...and some of William and Sarah's bairns would have been named after William's step-bros. Abraham, et al.

I will send for Franks real birth cert. I thought that was it.

Thanks for sticking with this puzzle. Margaret.

Do you think one of Franks' siblings was Abraham ?

The place you mention, Missendens and Princes Risborough are in the Chilterns in Buckinghamshire which along with High Wycombe are famous for chair making as there are many Beech woods.

This is a possibility for William. You say he was possibly an only child. Haven't found him on later census yet.

I think it is possible that William Brown born 1911 was a son of William and Sarah but have not way of proving it.

Brown Frank Amersham 3a 897

This is Franks' birth registration and as he is you ancestor it would be more approariate to send for this birth certificate. The mothers' surname was not added to birth registration details until late 1911.

If you haven't got the birth certificate you can purchase on line from

www.gro.gov.uk

with above reference it will cost £7 make sure you say you have reference on the form.

Margaret

Hi Pam:

I have a copy of Frank's birth certificate: He was born 14th May 1906 ... in Ballinger Gt. Missenden. Amersham district to William Brown and Sarah Pearce.

Does this help?

Margaret.

Pam

Pam Report 15 Jul 2008 15:00

Using http://freebmd.rootsweb.com I have Abraham Brown and Arthur Brown born in Amersham who might be children of Sarah and William.

This is the only Sarah Pearce marriage I can find in the time scale. It is not in Missenden (Amersham) but Lambeth in London. She could have been 'in service' in London. Many young girls were.

You need to purchase Frank's birth certificate to ensure that you are following the right family.

Hi:

OK - the whole message was not there when I first looked .... so I am thinking this is a child of William and Sarah .... I could send for the birth cert. and see if we can find out more about the parents ... is that a good next step? Margaret.
