I am quite surprised actually that William does not appear to have left a Will - especially as he was 'friendly with a Solicitor?

I haven't looked too hard for this but it might be worth your while trying to find one!!?

Again, You will find mention of William in Historical Directories - have to go off for a while so can't do much more than find him in Kelly's 1891 which doesn't say much.

You might want to have a little search for yourself - do you have the site info?

Many thanks for the Historical Directories tip. I didn't know it existed! I found the references to William on Kelly's 1891, and spent some time looking at other decades, directories etc. Haven't had time to do anything about Wills, but that's next. Thanks again for your help.

The Historical Directories site is extremely interesting isn't it?

It took me ages to work out the best ways to use it as it is rather 'fiddly' to search but well worth it in the end as it is absolutely overflowing with information.

The information you gave me on William and Gordon Adam has had a great outcome. Yesterday I received Death Certs for them both, and have been able to establish they are definitely my relatives. Thank you so much for your help, I really do appreciate it.
