This Margaret had a brother John, a bricklayer - if she lied about her age she may had also lied about her father??......... clutching at straws really :-S

Have you done an address search for the 1871 census?

I don't have FMP and it's a ball ache doing it on Ancestry

Wheathill St Salford

Dea

Dea Report 6 Apr 2014 14:28

They have changed the search on FMP Ginns and I can no longer do a street search but I have done this in the past with no result. I seen to remember there were a lot of 'lodgers' so they could just have stayed there for a short time before they married.

Am going to look for Flip's Alex and Margaret...........

Think Dea tried this back in 2005 Gins! Not sure if she actually found the street though, we'll have to wait for her to finish lunch :-D

Speak of the devil!!

Dea

Dea Report 6 Apr 2014 14:52

Well Flip - that was 'a blast from the past' I don't remember posting that and I never post on 'chat' nowadays so would never have noticed it.

It is a good job I only asked about the street or I would have been guilty of 'posting about the same person twice' :-D :-D

I can't find Margaret with father Alex on 1871 - can you post a reference please Flip?

Dea Report 6 Apr 2014 15:22

Mary - did you just post and delete it or am I going totally doolally ?

The info you had was correct by the way and it is a real mystery as to where those children were!

Flip Report 6 Apr 2014 15:30

I'll find the census and post up - your old post came up in a google search for the street! You've been on this for almost 10 years :-D

Dea

Dea Report 6 Apr 2014 15:35

I know Flip !!!!!!!!! :-( :-( :-( and somehow I don't think I will ever solve it :-(

You would think that in all that time I would have come across someone who was looking for Margaret or Thomas or John or at least had some connection but the very few people I have found to be looking at this family are only VERY distantly related along other lines.

All born Antrim, Ireland apart from Robert & Mary. Alexander was on 1881 census and son Johny was a bricklayer.

Added - the occupation of john(y) was what led me to them I searched on FMP for occupation *brick* hoping to find the father. No idea if this is connected to your Margaret though, I'm betting she shacked up with someone else - didn't like Mark so ditched him ;-)

Have a look at this woman as a possible for mother to Margaret. I know Margaret is not on this census but she could have been staying elsewhere

Sections of the Salford 1851 census are water damaged and have never been filmed, but the Manchester & Lancashire FHS have transcribed a considerable portion of this from the original records at the National Archives The transcripts are available from the society as 1384 Salford Regent Rd, 26 fiche.

Flip - How did you search on FMP with occupation 'brick' for that John McLaughlin ?

I can't see the option to put in the occupation now that the site has changed :-S

Dea x

Flip

Flip Report 7 Apr 2014 05:26

I don't subscribe to fmp, but can't see much in the way of change -not that I look on there much. I searched 1881 in the hope her father was still around & in the same occupation - the occupation box is greyed out for 1871.

Dea

Dea Report 7 Apr 2014 08:12

It sounds like you still have access to the old search format (lucky you !!!). they have now completely altered it for subscribers and it is totally useless :-(

Thanks Flip,
