Hi, Peter

Please can I ask for your help, can you find info for America, my gr gr granddad Robert Gwillam born 1848 Worcestershire married a Louisa (Hill) born 1859 in married 1880, It seems Robert had two children who were born in America, don't know how he came to be in America, was he married before Louisa, is there anyway that you can see who he was married to first, did he divorce or did 1st wife die, children in question were Robert 1874 born Luzerne United States and Rose 1872 United States, they show on the 1881 census, there is too much of a gap between Robert's ages and Louisa being 11 years and she wouldn't have been child-bearing age to have had Robert or Rose in 1872 / 1874, did he marry first in England and then go to America were these two children were born, or did he marry an American can you help me with this.

Regards
Michelle

Hi Michelle,
I see from the 1881 uk census what you mean the two childern are certainly too young to be hers .

I will continue to look for Robert in America but have no luck so far.

Louisa is still alive on the 1901 but no sign of Robert in the same house with 11 yo Fanny M. and 19 to Mary L.

To Michelle,

This is a possible marriage for Robert Q1 1869 registered at Pershore Worcs 6C /421 .
there is no spouse name listed which makes it awkward.

There are no Robert Gwillam's listed in my US census listings unfortunately .

Thank you Peter, this is so confusing, I did find the Fanny M and Mary 1901, but the 1891 cenus show Robert and Louisa having all there children including themselves listed, my gr grand was Martha Gwilliam born 1890, so if the Mary and Fanny M on the 1901 census are the same, what happened to the other siblings did they die, were they the same people as on the 1901 cenus but names transcibed differentialy and why is there no mentioned of the two born in America, this is doing my head in.

And maybe Rose too :-)

Rose is listed in 1901 working as a hotel waitress at the Cobden Hotel, Cherry Street, Birmingham. AGE 28 born Pensylvania USA. all sort of fits loosely.

I have a saved image if you want to look .

Thank you Peter, I would love to see the image, I will try and piece things together, this is all so very strange, there definately seems to be a mystery here, I wonder if I will ever find out.

I really appreciate all your assistance.

Hi, Peter

Just thought I would let your know, records have found the 1st marriage of Robert to Ellen Howden married 1869 but see died in 1879 in child-birth so at least I know who the parents were of Robert and Rose, now to find out how they came to be in America, not sure if he was maybe in the army and sent over there during a war?, not sure if I will ever find this one out unless I can find some distant relative of these two.

hi Peter,
Can you still do lookups? If so I would be grateful for anything you can find on these people in the 1861/ 71 census.
Robert Morrison c1840 married to an Elizabeth Turner c 1842. They were married on 28-12-1860 in the Tradeston area of Glasgow and as residents for marriage, would have been living there somewhere. I know they had at least one child a daughter Sophia born in 1873, anything you can find out would be a great help. Catherine
