This is a HUGE longshot and should be taken with a pinch of salt until proved. 1901 census a John Gilmore aged 9, would be old enough to have had a child in 1911 or 1912. His father is called Joseph so there is a tenuos link with names.

Not knowing a great deal about religion, would being married in a Roman Catholic Church possibly make them having links with Ireland??? He did marry a Doherty which I think is quite an irish name.

Sorry, don't know when he died, its all a bit hard because I don't know of any living relatives.

Gerri with regards to the date on the marriage certificate is was 26th October 1940.

he may have been 28 when he married but depends what time of year that was ,he may have been coming up to 29 making his birth 1911.
The marriage cert will give his dads name which you can use as a check point if you buy that 1911 birth cert. there isnt another one showing in the full records so i would say its likely to be him

Do you kow when he died?

Perhaps we can get details from his death registration

wow you've all steamed ahead whilst I was on the phone!!

Sorry don't know about any siblings he was my birth mothers dad, my birth mum died when I was 6 months old and my dad doesn't talk about these things.

Thanks for looking, maybe he was born elsewhere.

His marriage certificate shows he was 28 in 1940.

I couldn't find anything on free bmd, maybe I am not looking properly.
