MICROFICHE STILL NEEDED as of 16/09/2008

Please see my last post for details !!! Not a happy ending !!

Hello All,

I am looking for anyone who has a working microfiche reader that they no longer want.

I am willing to pay, obviously, though I have only a small budget but will try my best to meet an offer as I am desperately after one of these.

The main reason is to transcribe parish records for free online access.

Please leave a message on the board and I will get back to you or PM me and I will respond asap.

I hope someone can help me !

Regards

Donna xx

Have you asked at any garages.

A lot of them did have microfiche readers to view parts for bikes or cars

How much would one of those cost?

yeah I have tried but no luck unfortunately !

been trying for a while now but nothing....

hoping posting on here will do some good !!

I looked on ebay UK and they are asking anything between 100 and 400 pounds.

Way way too much for my budget....

People I know have managed to get theirs for 20-30 pounds second hand which would be more on my budget range.

Register with your local freecycle site.

You never know someone might have one

Thanks for your PM, GG - I have taken into account your idea and will see if I can get in contact with the firm.

Have you looked on E-bay.

A friend got one last year for around £10 on there.

I have looked on Ebay but a lot of them are collection only and I have no transport.

Other than that they are really expensive!!

Thanks Sara ,

I have emailed that bidder for shipping costs earlier but have had no response as yet.

I hope to hear something from someone soon !

The person on ebay selling the microfiche that Sara mentioned wants 9.95 delivery , the bids at 30 pounds at the moment .

Its a bit above my budget.....

A very kind lady offered me her brand new microfiche that cost her 240 pounds to me for 60 including delivery.

I could not afford this but my hubby said he would buy it for me for my birthday.

I, (in hindsight, very stupidly) sent the money Special Delivery Next Day , wrapped the money in cardboard and placed in a standard white envelope, and placed that envelope inside a padded envelope.

It arrived with the lady this morning, cardboard and money gone !

I am completely gutted, been given a form by post office who will only compensate 36 pounds and will only consider claim 10 days after postage date.

So here I am 60 down and without a microfiche !

So if anyone is considering dumping one that works or giving to charity , I would really appreciate if you consider me !

I now have a zilch budget - maybe 10 pounds at a push.

Regards

Donna

Do as I did, I went to Bristol Records Offfice,(ask at your local records office) and asked if they had any microfiche readers they didn't want. Told them I had limited funds and I got a reader for about £15-20.
