Sylvia (in Canada) has helped LOADS of newbies on ALL the boards...she is a wizz at finding rellies that we cant!...

You should think yourself lucky that she is offering her help and givng her time for FREE!

Gerri

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Sep 2008 01:23

Now to try to start again

why do you think there is something weird about the couple??

Why do you think she fibbed about her age?? Something that, incidentally, was common in those days, just as it is today!!

Susan

I also didn't appreciate the pm you have just sent

I was trying to help you.

We are all only too willing to help newcomers find their way around all these sites that we use. So that you can learn how to and where to find the information yourself .... especially on the free sites.

Ozibird Report 2 Sep 2008 01:19

Susan, take care, people are helping you here.

Question marks at the beginning usually mean that the following information is a possibility. freebmd tells you where it came from.

If you're not sure what something means, ask nicely, don't jump to conclusions.

Old hands on the board usually know when a new person is requesting information and are only trying to help you with as much info as possible.

Ozi.

Susan, Ive reread this thread and cant see Sylvia was acting superior in any way - I do the same as we want to encourage people to learn rather than rely on others. Go to freebmd.org yourself and have a practice finding events and do read that tips thread to help your research - Ive bumped it up for you.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 2 Sep 2008 01:12

Sorry

I did not mean to be superior.

I always put where i've found information if it is not on ancestry, and freebmd is often the way I put it.

I did mean to go back and correct it to www.freebmd.org.uk, the full citation, but forgot!

You're beginning to make me sorry that I spent the time searching for your people!!

Susan Report 2 Sep 2008 01:03

ahh heather i have her daughter birth certificate and it does not tell me- I somehow think she fibbed on it- maybe it is an age thing- i think she older than she says - there is something odd anyway- as i say it is the other halfs family so if they want to be weird so be it

And Sylvia you dont have to be so superior- some ppl are new to this and i have never heard of freebmd
so maybe i am stupid one but as said i am novice so please accept apology

If you want to buy a BMD cert, heres how and here
is the addy where you can buy it online... (copy n paste the following...)

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

(tip)Never pay more than £7
(another tip) for a marriage, you only need
put one partners name when ordering.

If you are ordering online from the GRO,
make sure that when the form asks
"Is the full GRO reference known?"
that you tick the "yes" box.

I apologise i am sort of new at this- and do try to be exact- but at times brain thinks faster than fingers

Heather

Heather Report 2 Sep 2008 00:56

Susan, you could use freebmd.org - its free - to find one of the kids birth cert refs and buy it for £7 from GRO online - that would give her full maiden name.

Oh I see Sylvia has found a possible marriage using freebmd. If you are confident thats the couple, you can use the ref to buy the marriage cert.
