Find Ancestors

I am trying to help a friend do her family treebut we are stuck before we even get started !!!! She is an only child born 1944 in Derby whose parents were divorced when she was youngHer mother was Muriel Bettridge birth reg Belper Reg dist 1914 and her father Harold Francis Brindley born about 1910/1912 she thinks Derby. She has no idea when or where they were married and no idea where her father was born or who his parents were. I have managed to progress - slowly - on her mothers side but have got nowhere on her fathers side. I do not have Ancestry so am limited to Freebmd for births and marriages. Could some kind person possibly find Harold's birth and marriage so that we can get started? Thank you.

Thank you everyone for trying to help. As there do not appear to be any marriages from 1939 - 1945, I wonder whether they just lived together ? No, just thought, that can't be as they were divorced if I recall correctly through her fathers alcohol problem. I will have to have a discreet conversation about the ?marriage and see what transpires. Thank you all.

Gosh Lindsay, that's wonderful. Goodness me they were married 10 years before my friend was born !! Bet she has no idea. Thank you all very much indeed. I must persuade her now to send for the marriage cert to find her grandfathers name so that we can progress further back via the 1901 census.

Harold Bridley to ? Watkin- in Derby. Maybe she was married before? July q of 1943

On second look she is spelt bettridge on the register without the E this may or may not help !

Lindsey - the surname is Bettridge without the e !!
