Ruth Report 17 Sep 2008 11:24

I've had a look through the indexes and while there are a couple of John Walker's getting married in the Stoke on Trent area I can't see any that match up with an Annie.

WALKER John SHERRATT Annice Burslem, St Paul Stoke-On-Trent 1915

do you think this could be them ?
that is the only match i can find

There's no way of knowing for sure unless you buy the cert, it would show his father's name so if that matched your details then it would be the John Walker you're after. If you bought it from the Stoke on Trent register office and explain that you're not sure if it's the couple you want but that if his father is shown as William then it is - I'm sure they would only provide the cert if that did match up.

The other way is if you're close enough to go and look at the Parish records and see the entry in the register that way.

I think Christine found this match as well but then wasn't sure because she found children born after 1918.

I think first step is to view the marriage cert and then work on from that.

right Ruth thanks for all your help .I think i will be going to Hanley next week to go and get the cert just a thought would i be able to get it from there i have always ordered them from southport

Ruth

Ruth Report 17 Sep 2008 12:07

I have no idea of the local geography but found this link for you
http://www.stoke.gov.uk/ccm/navigation/community--people-and-living/births--deaths--marriages-and-citizenship/

You can get the certs from Southport too but I don't know how flexible they are about only issuing them when you're not to sure of all the info and I've only ever contacted the local register office to where I want the cert from. If you don't want to buy the cert then possibly the register office can point you in the direction of the local record office where the registers may be kept.

Good luck with your search.

Marriages Sep 1919 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ellerton Jane Kearns Wolstanton 6b 362
Jones George E Walker Wolstanton 6b 362
Kearns John Ellerton Wolstanton 6b 362
Walker Annice Jones Wolstanton 6b 362

That's great news - perhaps the 2 births that Christine found out were hers and John's children as they came up as being in the Wolstanton district as did this marriage.

Just a thought it may be worth looking at the parish baptismal registers to see if you can find any children for John and Annice.

Births Jun 1919 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jones Harold Walker Wolstanton 6b 159

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Jun 1921 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jones Mary Walker Wolstanton 6b 215

Found these 2 births so they may be Annice and George's.

what im being told his she only every had one child

Ruth

Ruth Report 17 Sep 2008 12:42

It might be worth having a look in the Parish registers - I mean they may be her children or it might be a coincidence with the surnames.

Hi Louise,

I don't know which image Ruth sent to you but as far as I can see there are 4 for thisJohn Walker, the last one being his final pension details dated 25th June 1917 .

I have all 4 saved if you want them, or you can wait for Ruth to come back to you.
