	Hi Margaret thank you so much for your help I am pretty sure Joseph was thomas on cencus as Joseph's chldren seem to use their middle names also regards Jackie

	thanks again christine will have to get his birth certificate to find martha's maiden name as Margaret said there were lots of martha's at that time Jackie
