ok certs have arrived

firstly

rose Nurton death cert, that on was my rosina d/o john, she died of heart disease (vulvular) 2 yrs certified, so am guessing she got rhumatic fever as a child. so thats Rosina sorted

next

sidney nurton WAS the son of Henry James and Mary ann, not sure if he lived with his grandparents permenantly, or just happened to be there on the nights that the 1891 and 1901 census was taken. but my mother now remembers there was an uncle sid (dont you just love it when a £7 cert jogs their memory?) she doesnt think he ever married, but he did live in an almshouse in stogursey!

finally

the marriage of Francis Nurton and Mary ann Willicombe, was that of Francis henry, uncle to my Henry james nurton. Francis was 41 bachelor and Mary 39, spinster

following my convo with mother i now have 13 children to /henry and Mary ann all baptised one name and called another!!! (aunty may, real name fanny mabel, was called john when she was young!!!)

at least my trawling is a little more focused lol

that ralph nurton s/o henry james was in fact harold ralph, but that is a bit shaky

i know what you mean about the names

i have just found that henry james had son francis who was called frank!! luckily in the census he is francis

I can't find any record (birth, marriage or death that fits with Francis b. abt 1866). Is it possible that he may have been a George Francis or Francis George? Your gr. grandfather was Henry James but listed as James on the census.

the prob i have with the marriage that AnnMC found is that there is only one francis & mary ann nurton on the 1891 and 1901 census and he is too old to be mine

plus thier son sidney is 6 in 1891, (ok they could have waited before getting married) and i cannot find an earlier marriage for francis and mary ann

i think that might be Rosina the d/o john and ann

the dates fit ie bornc 1869 and the last record i can find for her is the 1881 census

i will have to send for the cert to prove, and hope that the informant is one of her parents

their eldest son

henry james nurton married mary ann dibble 20th dec 1881 again stogursey

they had 10 children between 1885 and 1900

(maybe 11 if the sidney living with john & ann turns out to be theirs)

the francis george birth is too young for my francis mine was bc 1866

not sure about the marriage, the date would fit, i saw it and dismissed it as being the francis and mary ann that joan has posted above
