Thank you to all the people who have posted replies especially Libby4 and SuffolkSue. The info that SuffolkSue supplied about dad's Immigration has helped a lot. I spoke to mum last night and she was so impressed that people have gathered this for us. I will be applying for all certificates that I can get.

Thank you for that and for everything that you have done so far. I will have to leave now as my morning relief has now come in. I will check this site again late today for anything else

Diane

Diane Report 30 Oct 2008 18:24

Ok. I 'm not quite sure what you have already , so if you want anything else looked up just let us know.

Alan Report 30 Oct 2008 18:21

I have sent a message to Christine as I found dad's name came up in her tree, wrong year born (out by 3 years) but correct place of birth (Christchurch mansion in Ipswich) so will await a reply.

Diane

Diane Report 30 Oct 2008 18:15

Have you search the trees on here as I notice a Christine as Dorothy and Edith in their trees. Not sure if you are aware of this or know of this person already

I went over to England with Dad, Mum and my sister in 1972. It was Dad's first time back since he left was was a good time for him and us. I went back again in 1978 on my own and Mum and dad went back twice again later on. Dad only had the one sister left (Dorothy) but unfortunatley she has since died. Dad died in 1983 and it is only recently that I have felt that I would like to research dad's and mums family. I brought a computer program and now am busily trying to to some searching. Lucky I am a shift worker in an office enviroment so am able to get some computer time (as it is 5am at present).
I know that I still have some family over in England but not quite sure who, In the Ipswich are as far as I know.

I am really not sure if it is the same seeing that you are in Australia, If I was you before ordering I would ask for some advice from people on here who know more about that ,

Have you kept in touch with you fathers siblings who stopped over here?

Alan

Alan Report 30 Oct 2008 17:55

Dad came over to Australia alone, part of the Boys Brigade as far as I am aware, married mum (Nancy Rhodes) out here in Australia. I went to the GRO site via this site and I take it it is easy to order certificates?

Diane

Diane Report 30 Oct 2008 17:50

Did your father go over to Australia alone or did he marry over in England?

Libby

Libby4, Thanks for that, what you found was his service record. I had only about 18 months ago received dad's war medals as he had previously not applied for them.

Alan

Alan Report 30 Oct 2008 17:41

Thank you Libby4 for that, I will go through, I take it the GRO to order the certificates

Diane

Thank you everybody, I am blown away that so many people have given time to reply to me. As I said I have only just joined this site and have so many questions to ask. George Francis Barham was my father who came out to Australia when he was a young man. Dad had a sister named Dorothy who remained in England and another sister named Edith so all the info that people have been supplying seems correct. Dad's father (William Barham) was married twice, first to Ellen White then to Kate Nickel.
I am a bit confused as to all the numbers that appears against the names, are they some sort of record number? As I said I am very new to this researching of family trees. Again thank you to all that has replied

Eric he seems a little young to marry Sep 1915, esp if he was the William Arthur born Dec 1899.

Although his Dad does seem a little old to be having a son in 1923 (not unfeasible for either I suppose).

Wonder if this was Kate:
