can anyone help please?? tring to find the birth and marriage of george langdon.supposedly born around 1846. its all a mystery. the 1881 census shows that he and his wife harriet and their children were all born in exeter telbury (or tilbury) BUT there is no such place in devon. at that time the family were living in crediton, devon. earlier census shows tilbury essex. I have searched and searched and cant find his birth anywhere in either exeter or essex nor his marriage. its like he doesnt exist. but finding that information is the only way of knowing where he was born and married. and who his parents were. its all driving me nuts!!!!

previous census says they were born in tilbury essex. telbury in exeter doesnt exist, nor has it ever. i phoned the registrars department in exeter yesterday.

There is a Tedburn St Mary in Devon not far from Exeter. I live in Devon.

if you can, take a look at the 1881 census. they are living in crediton. its george langdon born 1846 wifes name is harriet. see what you make of the writing. it def looks like tilbury exeter to me. and my cousin has seen it on other census as tilbury essex.

Harriet Langdon 50 I think this reads 30 not 50 because she has a child of 1 year old. She is transcribed as born St Pancras Devon but the census does say London.

Are! the above George is on the 1881 a boarder and single a Solicitor and he is in Buckingham..

Got it and it does look like Tilbury or Telbury but the enumerator seems to have been very muddled as George was first put down as Dau of the above family!!!

I would say the marriage posted earlier is the right one for this couple as their first child was born 1873 and the marriage is 1871.

so where does tilbury essex come into all of this wonderful information?? is it just a big mistake? i certainly couldnt find a birth for george in essex at all.xx

I think the family of Langdon's with William as a Solicitor is a differents family to the one you are looking for.

If you buy the marriage cert of George Landon and Harriett Greet that will have their fathers names and occupations on it. I can't seem to find the family with the father. The family I found on IGI is the family you need with siblings to George of Ann, Eliza and William.

If you buy the birth cert. of George Langdon that I posted that will tell you his mothers maiden name then we can go on from there. Forget about the Tedbury or Tilbury and Essex or Middlesex as this is not the family we want.
