My nan Elizabeth (Lily) Moran nee Kearney married James Anthony Moran in Liverpool 1944. James had a mother Elizabeth (lily) how can I find out her maiden name? Plus his father no clue at all. James died age 37 had brothers and my mum an only child Eileen.
Both my mum and nan have died so not sure were to go from here
Any info greatly appreciated

If you bought their marriage certificate, it will give you their father's names

If you got his birth certificate, it will give you father's names and mother's previous name

What year did he die? you said he died age 37 but no year

Cathy.. Marriage certificates only have the father's names on.

Do you know when James Moran was born and died? and where? His birth index may hold some information

I know he had a brother called Frankie who was blind. Not sure of his dob my nan was born 1924 so I presume around then.
OK re the marriage cert at least I can then get his fathers name. This is a mine field isnt it lol

Ok Cathy, that's fine...

When did he die? Deaths are indexed by surname. We can look at his death index and that should hopefully give his date of birth

He must have died in 1954 because I have just remembered my mum was 7 when he died and she was born in 1947

Smurf were would you recommend I should subscribe to for information. With being a newbie dont want to be getting ripped off

Cathy.

I personally use Ancestry.co.uk which i find easier to use.

Although, in my oppinion, i wouldn't subscribe to anything yet. I'd get everything you know from you family first. Get it all together. Then one you get used to waht to do, get a subscription

If your family is mainly from the UK, Ancestry do 3 Different subcriptions... World, US and UK.

(I found the best thing is WH Smiths! I got a family tree package called Family Tree Maker. It's a program where you can put your tree. with it comes a 6 month subscription to Ancestry UK and cost me £40)

But i wouldn't get anything yet. get used to researching first otherwise you don't get the most out of your money

Samspade Report 12 Nov 2008 16:21

MRJH

MRJH Report 12 Nov 2008 16:23

Just realised lol, Been trying for age to open the page but it just wouldn't work!

Haskamp is the Mother's maiden name.

There's only 1 marriage between a Moran and a Haskamp.. so it's almost definately James' parents
