Hello Pamela, you have replied to a thread which is over 2 years old and the poster may not be a member any more.

You can try clicking on her name and sending your message that way. If she has the same email address she will be notified.

Also, try putting the names you are researching into the Search Trees box above to see if anyone else on this site has them in their tree. If you find a connection, you can contact the tree owner.

Why not start a thread of your own? Take a look at the Help clinic - above left - for further info. Regards. Cx

Hi Deborah

I am really going to look into this as I am convinced these may be the parents of the John who was Kate's father. I have been in contact with a GR member descended from the Aus side, there were two Demoulins who married Grace & Jane Davidson (sisters?) but she had no other info. Just my luck!

Thanks again ...watch this space....

Thanks Dea

I think it's magic really...I have spent hours and hours looking for these people and I agree - they weren't there before!! I know surnames are likely to change over years but I've tried different spellings etc.

Anyway, having found them on 1871 I'm pretty sure that I also have Jane and husband John on 1851 - he was a cordwainer (maker of fine shoes !) and they had lots more children. I think he must have died young and perhaps the other children did too, leaving just Jane,Charles & Kate. Hours more fun for me looking up this lot!! I think I'm a bit unsure about using the sites as I'm not the greatest at computers but I manage, although I find Ancestry a bit confusing. Lot's of my research is just scribbled on bits of paper really, and then I put it on GR when sure.

Again, thanks for everyone's help so far - there are some seriously good researchers out there!! How do you do it?? I just wish I could find more time....

So exiting - I was just staring at the last bit of info and started looking for Dumolin....there they were on 1871 census!!! Jane is mother,Charles and Catherine and dates are right too! (give or take a bit -usual) The Marys and Charles must be related so I'll check them out later.

All in shoe trade so that is a confirmation as well. I think I have found a parish record of marriage for Jane on Ancestry so will be chasing that now...there were two sisters, Grace and Jane Davidson who married two Demolins, Jacob and John.

Thanks again everyone for help!!!

Thanks Dea & Deb - great info!!

I have already looked into Catherine Demoulin from France but I could'nt tie the age in as my Kate was definately born 1856 not 1843. Still could be a rellie and I have lots of info on family if she is - traced back to about 17 something.
Fantastic stuff about Mary - Golden Lane is the other side of Old Street from Baltic Street and I am sure she is the sister but then could be a cousin! What confuses me is Kate and Elias living with Jane and Charles - usual to live with parents I think. Perhaps Mary was Mary Jane?
Anyway thanks again for helpful leads. I'll start hunting again - watch this space!!

Hi Selena

I did reply yesterday but it doesn't seem to have got through - don't know what happened...

Couldn't find Kate & Elias on 1881, or Charles and Jane. There is a Charles and two Marys (surname Dumoulin)on Ancestry 1881 census so I'm not sure now if the record is right. Perhaps the census taker wrote Mary twice and mother should have been Jane? Also Charles is on 1901 as Demoul;in - age is about right on all three records. I know the family trade was shoe/bootmakers .

I only found Kate & Elias on 1891 by searching for the daughter Grace Park..they weren't listed in GR record.

Any ideas?

HI Selena- sorry had to go out suddenly!
Couldn't find them on 1881 but I did find Jane & Charles living with Elias & Kate on 1891 but it was difficult - I think I ended up looking for Grace Park the daughter. They were all living at 47 Baltic Street. But then on Ancestry 1881 I found a Charles Dumoulin living with mother and sister both called Mary -also at 47 Baltic Street. Slight difference in age of Charles but usual at that time I know. So was there a mistake with Mary senior name or ?? I am really confused but I got Charles (again Dumoulin) on 1901. This is my problem, I can find Kate at marriage but no further back.

Have you found Jane and Charles, or Elias and Kate on the 1881, I can't find them!

Could the witness be a sister, Mary given above?

Claire

Claire Report 25 Mar 2009 10:33

Hi Selena
Thanks for info on Jane. She is on 1891 census with her son Charles and Kate&Elias & children were living with her so I assumed she was mother. BUT on Kate's marriage cert the witness is Mary, and I always thought that would be her mother - unless she was dead of course. I am really stuck because I can't think where to trace these parents as they don't show anywhere...

thanks for help

Claire Report 24 Mar 2009 16:42

Back on the hunt again!! I have Kate's marriage certificate from 1875 and her father (deceased) was John Demoulin - a shoemaker by trade. I assume her mother's name is the witness so would be Mary. Again I have had no luck with census etc so am really stuck.
Any suggestions?

Thanks everyone for the help so far! I may have to step back from searching for a while as I am moving my Mum in with us, as she doesn't want to be on her own any more....not much fun being old. Next few days will be busy with washing all her china and finding homes for all the silk flowers!
When she is settled I can start again so if I don't reply to anyone in the meantime- apologies.
