Oh thats a blow, but keep on googling, check out that other Troughton website too and the fhs.

I didnt actually think that was your Nick but maybe a bro of Johns.

Wayne

Wayne Report 7 Jan 2009 19:02

Yes that is Sue Crilly, i have seen it thank you, we have been helping each other out but we're stuck at Nicholas

Wayne

Wayne Report 7 Jan 2009 19:01

Yes Mel gave me that one too, but it means Nick would be 12 or less when John was born, there are too many Troughtons it's just too much!!!

Try googling just the surname and the area. But the local Family History society should be able to help.

Wayne

Wayne Report 7 Jan 2009 18:43

Thank you yes he is the same one that Mel found, must be some relation, somehow.
I will try googling him, you never know, thank you both for your help

Not so much a change as someone who perhaps uses his second name rather than his first - seems to happen so much

But you have a good clutch of them in that area. Id be very tempted to contact the local FHS and do a google search in case anyone has done a one name study of them.

Wayne

Wayne Report 7 Jan 2009 18:35

LOL ther are thousands of them in Cumbria, especially in around Millom.
Not sure about the name change, possibly

Theres this one in 1851 born Cleator - if not your bloke, good chance related - he is a jouneyman blacksmith - says married but no sign of wife so he appears to be working away from his normal home (as journey men often did) but you have probably seen him already. Keep him handy though.

I have seen them before and disregarded them because of Johns birth year, but like you say about the baptism date, it could be them, they tie in because they had a daughter, Martha, born around 1849, but they also had a son William, born in 1848, who lived until 1910
