Hi Everyone

Wondering if you could help me, I've hit a brick wall on my dad's side of the family. So here's what I've got:

All Stoke On Trent / Staffordshire

Dad's parents
Arnold Tideswell Born 1934 died 1994
Florence Wakelin Born 1935

Arnold's parents:

Ernest Tideswell born 1869
Winifred Ashley born about 1915

The massive age gap is correct

I have looked at the trees on here but can't find anything - any ideas?

Alos looking for Florence's parents and further details:
George Wakelin b: circa 1880
Amelia Copeland b: circa 1870

Amelia second husband was Joe Martin b: circa 1890

Thanks

Natasha

thanks ann, are those on family search? I'm sure there wasn't anything in there last time I looked!

Thanks though, got a bit carried away with my mum's side so haven't really done much on my dad's side.

But that helps thanks

Could you possibly send me the links to those? I can't seem to find what you're finding :S

Jeeberella Report 9 Jan 2009 20:13

hi ozibird, no i haven't got that. Those are rough dob's from my nana from what she can remember! She's in her 70's bless her so her memory isn't so great

those dob's must be wrong otherwise she had my nana when she was 65 lol! i'm guessing they will be closer to the 1900 mark if they got married in 1925

There are 156 Copelands in the Stoke on Trent area in the 1901 census (no Amelia), so don't get too excited.

Only Amelias born Staffordshire that I can find. However she may not have been born in Staffordshire.

Births Sep 1875
COPELAND Amelia Ann Leek 6b 287
Births Sep 1886
Copeland Amelia Cannock 6b 494
Births Mar 1898
COPELAND Amelia Leek 6b 309

thanks ozibird

that marriage does look right though, wakelin and copeland, years add up as well

i've found a goerge wakelin in bmd born 1901 in stoke as well, so I;m thinking the dates my nana gave me are wrong, and maybe rough date for her grandparents instead!

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 9 Jan 2009 20:35

There is this birth:

Births Sep 1901
Wakelin George Stoke T. 6b 288

cheers ozi that's the one I've just found too!

If it's not them then it's a ruddy big coincidence.

my nana was born in 1935 which would make sense as amelia would have been 37 and not 65!

Ozibird

Ozibird Report 9 Jan 2009 20:39

The 1901 seems the best bet.

There is this family in 1901 but you need to get the marriage cert to confirm father. Perhaps your grandmother may have it.

cheers ozi

I'm going to speak to my nana again tomorrow, but if I remember rightly she hasn't got any documentation unfortunately, but I'll double check just to be on the safe side.

Thanks for your help though, I know i've been a pain by having the wrong dates, I dont know why I never realised before they must be wrong!

Jeeberella

Jeeberella Report 10 Jan 2009 17:02

After speaking to my nana I've found this out:

Amelia Copeland was born 8th January 1898
George Wakelin born 1901 sounds about right, as he died when my nana was 14/15 so 1949 / 1950 (although I can't find this on bmd). He went to school in Normacot, but did live in Elm Street, Cobridge, Stoke On Trent

George and Amelia lived @ 40 Chatwin Street, Smallthorne, Stoke On Trent

2 years later Amelia married Joe Martin and they moved to 20 Sparrow Street, Smallthorne, Stoke On Trent, where Joe was already living. So this would have been early 50's (1952-4)

She thinks Amelia's mother was Ellen as it's a family name, possible maiden name of Goodwin.

She's given me her siblings details, but will not be chasing those avenues.

I know this info is patchy at best, but any help would be very much appreciated

Thanks Natasha :D
