There is nothing to say all the children on the 1901 are Mary's indeed none of them maybe.... Elizabeth could have possibly died having the last child.

Thats the only problem with the pre 1911 census's they did not often show step families correctly.

Carry on from the first message
His second wife was Mary with whom he had 4 children Lily 1892, Cathleen & Minnie (Twins) ? 1893 and Beth E 1897.
All we need to know now is the name of Joseph juniors wife.

Thanks to All (especially Tracey x and Dea)

Sorry was having lunch.....

I'm going to take a look and see when Minnie and Cathleen were born and if as the census suggests they are twins. It could be the trigger point we need.

We need to establish when Elizabeth died and which children are hers.

Hi All

Been collating all the information that you've given me,I think its evident that Joseph 1858 was married twice.
To Elizabeth as 1891 Census having two children Joseph Jnr 85 & Mary 1883 but does not appear in the 1901 census.

Yes i thought that, but it's pinning a death to Elizabeth.... there are a few....!!

I agree with Helen, or they married after some of the children were born and just stated 10 years to ensure all the children looked like they were within wedlock on paper?

Helen Report 15 Jan 2009 13:09

If he married in 1901 he would have only been 16, so proberly lied about his age.

Hi again....

Do we know anything about Joseph at all?

His parents names? Siblings?

Trying to narrow him down now....it's quite possible he married Annie in the Sussex area?

If she's from Ireland you might be lucky and she's listed on one of the inbound New York ships lists.
