I did a search at freeBMD for a marr 1851-61 between Spe*k* and *mar* and got no suitable hits, so it looks like William was her first marr, so she ought to be Speak or some variant in 1841/51.

I can't find anyone in 1861/71. For reference, I did find America St:

1871 America St RG10/2848/32/1 thru 42/22 h/h's 1-34,39-52,60-103,109-115 in ED19

Thank you for helping me a few days ago. I have now received the birth certificate for Sarah Lycett.

Details as follows:

Born 26.3.1869 America Street, Tunstall, Wolstanton, Staffs, Sarah - father William Lycett, Mother Maria Lycett formerly Speak, father's occupation Coal miner living at America Street.

As these connect to Sarah and husband Benjamin census details and their wedding cert I believe this is the correct certificate for her.

With the above information can you help please with 1871/81 census details; looking for other family members and ultimately the GRO of William and Maria's wedding cert details.

sassel

sassel Report 17 Jan 2009 21:45

Actual wedding date is 18 October 1886, her father William Lycett is shown to be a collier.

Sarah and husband Benjamin Smith were living at Coventry Street at time of marriage.

As soon as I receive the Tunstall birth certificate, I will be in touch.

Thank you all for assisting.

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 16 Jan 2009 18:03

You don't give the date of the marriage but - age at marriage and age at 1901 could both be right. Assuming she gave the correct age each time.

If you take her age of 31 at the 1901 census (31.3.1901) and think about the possibility that her birthday could have been the day before (30 March) or the day after (1 Apr) you get a possible birth range of 1 April 1869 to 30 March 1871.

You don't give the date of the marriage so for the longest spread I'm assuming it was 30th Dec 1886 and she was 18. Again, birthday could have been day before or day after so possible birth range of 31 Dec 1867 to 29 Dec 1869.

Looking at both date ranges together - and again assuming ages given are correct on both of the above dates - then possible birth range would be 1 April 1869 to 29 December 1869.

If the wedding took place earlier that quarter then you'd need to adjust the end date of the range I've given. At the moment though I'd be looking for a birth in 1869.

Yeah, I couldn't find her in 1871/81 - did find Sarah Ellen with sis Blanche and another sis at some boarding school in Hereford. Think I'll wait for the b.cert.

Although this clearly isn't your Sarah, which is her b.cert?

The parents do have some connection to Woolstanton RegD (but Burslem, not Tunstall)

The http://www.bmsgh.org site looks like a very good site for searching didnt know it existed.

On boundaries, I just searched for Benjamin Smith born 1865/6 according to his marriage cert, and the 1901 census say born in Salop, newport. I have done a general search and it seems this is also part of staffs, the bmsg site search come up with 1866 Norton, Stafford Moorlands. Do you know if this would tie in with boundry/name changes.
