Hi Clare

Thanks very much for the offer.I have traced my Ayling ancestors back to 1700's and i have reached a point i now need a record office lookup as i am stuck.Could you possibly look for John Ayling born c1747 married to Mary Stamp c1748-i have neither of the parents for the couple and the only info i have on then is the following:

They married in Boxgrove-18-06-1768 and they had a son William c1790.There must have been other children to this couple's marriage and i should imagine William was the youngest.William was a Labourer and listed as born Sussex-no district? He married Mary Freeborn born c1782.They had a son William born 1819 in Childham,Sussex.William was a Farm Baliff,he married Elizabeth King born c1816 on 26-11-1842 in Westbourne.

Giving all this extra info to give you an idea of the area of Sussex this line was from and hopefully something will show for John Ayling and Mary Stamp,as i would love to get this line further back or at least to have the siblings for William c1790.This line went onto be in Westbourne,Funtingdon, and Chichester.Gladys Ayling born Chichester 1891 was my GGrandmother.

Thats again and anything you can find would be great.

Hi Julia,
Unfortunately Brighton is in East Sussex and so I will not be able to help you on this one, as electorial rolls for Brighton are held in the Brighton family history centre.
Sorry

Hi Clare

Thank you for your kind offer. Could you possibly look for a baptism for Henry Brown b.1869 in Worthing, Sussex . His mother was Harriet Brown. I'm also looking for a marriage of Harriet Brown to John Ayling. It would be after 1871, I've never been able to find it but on all following census they always stated they were married! By 1878 Harriet was going under the name of Ayling. Any help would be very appreciated.

Many thanks.

hi Clare

thank you for your offer

My G G Grand father was Francis Edward Mitchell (sometimes recorded as Edward on census's, childrens baptisms etc) he was born 1808 Horsham. I am looking for his birth and hopefully a lead to his parents. I have St Mary's parish church Horsham records and he's not in those. Also looking for his marriage to Mary Margaret Jupp she was born 1807 Slaugham. I think this was between 1827 - 1833.

Thank you again
Wendy

Clare

Thanks for the offer.

I am trying to trace info on Colbourne births between 1893 & 1911ish

I am having real problems trying to get the correct info on the correct given names of Esther's siblings. I beleive there were seven of them. My problem stems from the fact that they appear to have been known as Ben, Mabel, Ethel, Nell, Esther, Jenny, Bailey & May when actually their given names were????!! I have listed in their names from oldest to youngest (I believe).

I would be really grateful if you could please help in my quest to get the correct information.

Esther was born in 1905 - Her parents were Ben Colbourne & Mary Ann Smith (although on their marriage cert she is listed as Annie, and my FIL says she was known as Nancy!!). Ben died in
1910 but I believe a child 'May' was born after that.

Ben's marriage -
Marriages Dec 1893
Colbourne Ben Horsham 2b 675
Smith Annie Horsham 2b 675

Esther's birth info as follow:
Births Mar 1905
Colbourne Esther E. Preston 2b 339

Deaths Sep 1910
Colbourne Ben 41 E.Preston 2b 194

I would be really grateful if you can help.

I have the following possibilities for a few of them which is based on pure guesswork -

BEN - Benjamin Percy Colbourne
Dec 1894 E Preston 2b350

MABEL - Mabel Emily E Colbourne
Mar 1895 E Preston 2b 335

ETHEL - Margaret Ethel K Colbourne
Jun 1897 E. Preston 2b 328
or
Ethel Nellie Colbourne
Mar 1899 E Preston 2b335

NELL - Ellen Maud Colbourne
Births Mar 1900 E. Preston 2b 343

ESTHER Esther Colbourne (I have this certificate)
Mar 1905 E. Preston 2b 339

JENNY - Joan Elizabeth Colbourne
Dec 1909 E Preston 2b 304

MAY Dorothy May Colbourne
Jun 1910 E. Preston 2b 227

BAILEY - Totally eludes me and I have not come anywhere close to finding any info pertaining to his birth.

The 1911 census has not been that helpful for me either as the children seem to be living with relatives following the death of their father. I also cannot find the mother.
Thank you once again, really hope this is not too much to ask of you.

Nicki

Hi Clare:
Thank you for the offer; I hope you might have time for my lookup?
I've never been to a records office (obviously, eh?) so I'm not sure what is available.

Update: May I ask, please that this search not be made? Please see my new posting further down the page. Thank you, Clare.
Wondering if there might be a baptism record for: William Cooper, born 1756, possibly born in Shipley, Sussex.

My William married Susannah Parker on 6-June-1786 in Shipley, Sussex. The family stayed in Shipley. They had at least one child: Mary Cooper, born 8-July-1797 or 1796 in Shipley, Sussex. William died 26-May-1811 (I believe in Shipley).
Thank you.

Hi Clare

Birth date 2 Feb 1905, looks like 1 Courtlands Terrace, Goring - does that help?

Wendy pm'd me the following very useful info -

"I have got the parish records for St Marys parish church Horsham and your Ben age 23 and Annie also 23 are on there.
Ben was a brick maker from EastWorthing Brickyard his father was Moses a brick maker and her father was William a plaster Annies address was given as 57 Park Street and witnesses were William Smith and Emily Smith
You may already have all that BUT also there is a birth 25/09/1898 for Edith Annie parents Ben & Annie and he is a brick maker from Hem Lane Worthing- Ben and Annie got married on 14/10/1893 "

I then found a death for Edith aged 2.

Clare, if it isn't too late, may I ask that you NOT look for my above request (William Cooper) and only if you have time left over after helping the other people and doing your own research...
I've come across a big mystery of another line. IGI has:
Bettie Frances
Christening: 12 Jan 1727 Shipley, Sussex
Parents: John Frances and Bettie

Wondering if this is actually Bettie Francis. Or, if the name is written down as Sarah Frances, as was told to me by someone researching that family.

I hope it makes sense. I am leaving for a camping trip soon. I will not be checking here again until Sunday night. Please make sure your own research is done before looking for my Bettie??? Thank you, Clare.
