woops sorry to do this but just spoke to my nan on phone and she says that samuel hartley parents were maria and william hartly nor elenor but from west yorkshire and samuel had brothers called herburt and george and william [willie] so its still samuel hartley born 1889/8 but mother is maria and father is william thank you lisa

There is no point in going down the wrong family line. none of the births matches exactly what you said about him, so it is really important that you buy the marriage certificate which will give the name and occupation of his father.
