John Report 5 Apr 2009 23:37

Margerat Rees and Morris Griffiths are looking good as the parents but cannot match up from Dolgellau to Holyhead as Morris Jnr was in Cader Rd in Dolgellau in 1919 at the time of his marriage but where was he before, need to find evidence that Morris Snr and Margerat lived at Cader Rd also

John Report 13 Apr 2009 12:30

Hi Toni
Thanks for the info, i am not sure if yours and my Morris is the same. I seem to have a problem matching up the family move from Dolgellau to Holyhead, I know that my G/Father was a Morris Griffiths for sure and that he married Florence Purse in Holyhead in Dec 1919 and his address on the b/cert was given as 1 Cader Rd Dolgellau also that his Father was given as Morris as well and deceased at that time. Does any of this sound familiar with you
I think the only way out would be to get Morris Jnrs b/cert to ascertain his parents but i am finding it difficult doing this due to the fact i cannot nail down the area he was born but i do know he was 29 at the time of his marriage giving his DOB as 1890
As i am not very experienced at family search i would appreciate any help you can give
Regards John

Why do you think that Morris senior and Margaret necessarily lived at Cader Roads. They may have done but Morris junior was 19- he may have fought in WW1. He was certainly old enough to have left home and moved to where the work was. We know that Margaret and Morris were in
Dolgelly as they married there. Next step may be try the local archives for electoral roll, etc. Try looking at the Genuki site to get a feel of the area and find out where local records are.

John, the family Toni is describing is the one that June graciously tracked for you (although possibly not to the right place in the case of Morris Sr, lol), back from the 1901 household:

Morris Griffith 44
Margaret Griffith 43
Morris Griffith 10
Ellen Griffith 8
Laura Catherine Griffith 7
Jane Griffith 4
James Griffith 2

I didn't notice your thanks for that effort.

Really, skepticism (very possibly unjustified, for reasons some have given) combined with calling for people to do more work for you isn't the best approach for getting help!

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 13 Apr 2009 19:25

In the 1901 census, the Morris Griffith Sr in Toni's family, as shown in the census record June provided, was aged 44.

This looks rather like his death?

Deaths Dec 1906
Griffith Morris 49 Dolgelly 11b 247

So as Christine says -- given that Morris Sr was deceased, and had apparently been dead some 13 years -- "Why do you think that Morris senior and Margaret necessarily lived at Cader Roads"?

EvieBeavie

EvieBeavie Report 13 Apr 2009 19:29

For Toni's family -- the family in the 1901 census record June provided -- sister of Morris Sr:

Births Dec 1893
Griffith Laura Catherine Dolgelly 11b 346

So very probably:

Marriages Dec 1910
Griffiths Laura C Dolgelly 11b 639

Which suggests the family stayed in Dolgelly district, and it was Morris Jr who moved away -- possibly after WWI, as Christine suggested.
