Ok Ness. I have to get lunch now for the family.

Just read other message. Yes you can look for other children but I only get William when I do that.

When you get an Extracted birth/Christening at the bottom is a number, if you click on that number then enter the parents and just put the surmane in ther other box and click on search it should give the other children of those parents. Dos'nt always work though.

Found William's christening on familysearch - mother Phoebe, father John.
Can I know search for other children of John & Phoebe without names?

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Mar 2009 12:46

Pheobe is head of the house so she must be a Widow. John Brooks is in the same house but down as Farm Servant but they have transcribed him as being on his own. Thats why I put both census on there. That must be how he met Hannah though. The 1841 census has two pages to look at viewed as one page. It is not until the next census that you only get one page to view at a time.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Mar 2009 12:41

I should think that Albert is Pheobe's grandson. Perhaps William was married to Rebecca although she is only 15!! The 1841 census is not very good because they rounded the ages up to 5 years sometimes. John Brooks is down as born 1825 and thats what I had put in when I found him. Hannah Beard is down for the right year of birth though at 1834.

Sorry Mel - are the at the same house as Phebe Bloor or living next door?

Ooh, WELL DONE!!! Another piece of the jigsaw slotted in - if only the census was carried out in 1931! Never happy are we!
I think most of the area seem to be related and I'm sure when I can get it all straight that they will end up in my tree!
I wonder where 5 mth old Alfred fits in - child of Martha & John? Poss son of William. I will have to try and find him on a later census.
How do you get to see the neighbours?
Thank you for all the time you have spent on this today!

If you can search by address I found somebody (i've marked possible, but my note is incomplete) at Broad Bottom, Aston & Oldham, Cheshire. I noted this address as some registrations for Ipstones/Bradnop read as Cheadle which is also Cheshire.
Is this something you can check?

Thanks Mel. I have a death for a Thomas Beard in 1838 which I think is probable the right one and a re-marriage for Martha in 1840 - to John Bloor.
Through previous help on here & familysearch I think I have the children of John Brooks (1823) and Hannah. It really is the Brooks line that I have stumbled on.
Mind you I suppose when you start going pre 1800 things are bound to get a bit sketchy!

It gets really confusing as Martha Bloor was previously Beard (nee Stubbs). Hannah's father was Thomas Beard - now there are Beards all over the area! I have 2 Herbert Beards ca 1863 & 1865 - trying to find who goes where and with whom is proving another nightmare - somewhere along the line I think cousins married cousins! They are living at Dirty Gutter, Bottom House, Low House, Low Top!! But thats another subject entirely!

The John Brooks here as you say is ca 1823, but I havent been able to find anything for John & Millicent! The John&Jane scenario could be linked in but its difficult to decipher with my limited access as this thread has proved!

It's all over the place and I'm trying to get it all in order!
Thanks for the effort you have put in x

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 27 Mar 2009 11:22

Forgot to say they were living at Dirty Gutter and next door at Green Gutter was a Thomas Cope and his family.

Vanessa

Vanessa Report 27 Mar 2009 11:08

Hmmm some more investigation then! I thought they only used the same if the elder child had died!
Thanks for all your help anyway - as always im very grateful

They are different dates for both John's otherwise I would have thought it was a transcription error. They are the only ones that come up and when I look on Ancestry I don't get a Millicent Brooks at all. Only one who would be too old.

So this is your John c1823 on the 1851 census. I see where you are coming from now.
