hi gillian you have been busy thank you so much.It looks like from this that Thomas remarried and it also looks like he returned to carlisle.I wonder if there were anymore children.I can't remember my mum ever talking about her gran or grandad or any uncles or aunts.Once again thanks for your help

Thomas Brown died 1900 Dec Q Carlisle

1891 St Cuthbert Without Carlisle
Thomas Brown 37 French Polisher b Scotland
Mary Ann 36 wife b Birkenhead
Joseph Brown 11 b carlisle
Joseph Robinson 33 boarder b Birkenhead (probavly brother to Mary Ann)

Think I have found them in 1881 census in Beith Ayrshire in Scotland
Thomas Brown 24 French Polisher b 1857 Edinburgh
Elizabeth Brown 24 b England
Joseph Brown 1 b England
They are boarding with a Robert and Isabella Smith

sorry annie i seem to have ignored you didn't mean too. I am going to order the earlier cert as he seems the most likely, joseph was the one born in carlisle his father was born in scotland joseph must have moved to scotland and married here as i have a copy of his marriage cert also his death cert. thanks again for your input

hi dea so sorry i've taken so long to reply i had to pop out. It's ok thanks for the help you have ginen me I will order that birth cert to see if it's him (cross fingers) i'm used to hitting brick walls thanks so much

I don't think that we can get much closer than the one in June Q 1879 which I gave you on page 1.

hi dea joseph and jane were creamery workers married at the manse in duddingston in scotland. joseph's father was a french polisher mother elizabeth m.s. oliver was deceased jane's father was william halliday ploughman deceased mother margaret halliday m.s.permen. I have some info on them as it is in scotland it's just joseph's birth i can't find

I can't see them even on the 1881 - they must have moved to Scotland very soon after his birth ? - You say they are 'creamery workers' - I thought his father was a 'French Polisher' ?

hi again dea it is a scottish cert but joseph was born in england. His father Thomas must have moved down to carlisle from scotland don't know if he was married when he moved' but joseph was born in carlisle don't knoww if there are any siblings but joseph must have moved to scotland at some time. by the way they were creamery workers thank for your help

I will take a look but don't think I will be able to help further.

Although you have not given the other details, this looks to me like a Scottish marriage cert and I do not have access to Scottish records.

It is likely that he was also in Scotland for the 1901.

right dea the info is joseph brown married 13/6/1902 age 23 to jane halliday age 21 joseph father and mother is thomas brown french polisher. elizabeth brown ms oliver (deceased) can't make out witnesses names as it is a copy. thats all the info i have sorry it's taken so long newbie and not a good typer

O.K.,

Lets start from the cert then and work back.

Can you give us EVERYTHING from the cert - names, addresses, ages, occupations, fathers, witnesses etc........

hi dea i have just checked on his marriage cert and deducted his age from the year he was married. he was married in 1902 and was 23 so his birth year was 1879 so i must have it wrong somewhere
