Clare Report 30 Apr 2009 12:03

We have not seen this. It could be them before James was born. The witnesses on James marriage certificate are M.E. Connell and a P. Connell. They could be his sister Mary. E. and her husband.
Thankyou for your help. Clare.

Hi Rootgatherer,
This is Clare's mum Pat. We were sure that the James and Euphemia family was the right one,but now we have doubts.James's father was listed as a broker, and then in Manchester he was a dock labourer. We have now a birth cert. which may be for the James Miller in the workhouse....Born subdistrict Howard St.Liverpool, Ref 403.
Born 28th March1873, 2b 2hos Milton St.
Father...John, Dock Labourer , Mother.....Mary,formerley Riley. This was registered in the 2nd quarter on 17th May 1873.
On James marriage cert, on 31st Aug 1895 at St Albans, Cath Church, Mcr. their ages are......James 21 and Martha 19.We wondered if they had to produce birth certs to get married in those days. His age on the birth cert. corresponds to the Manchester Census'.
We cannot find a death for James in Manchester, he is not with his family,if he was in the Manchester reg. there may be a chance that he died in the 14-18 war,and my mother was told wrong
I am sending for the Marriage cert, mentioned earlier,of the Mary we think may be his daughter. This is in 1918,so it should tell us if he was dead or alive. Thanks for all your help.

Any more info please ,on James Miller 1873?

Clare Report 7 Apr 2009 20:03

Yes the Martha Warburton in the 1891 census is correct. But what we are unable to find out is the names of both parents and siblings of James Miller b 1873 in Liverpool. We know that his father John Miller was a dock labourer. Thankyou for your help. Clare.

Patricia Report 7 Apr 2009 08:18

When James and Martha married they were both living in Northington St. Manchester, so would expect them both to be living somewhere round there on the 1891 census.

John Miller was a dock labourer and James Miller was a painter in 1895. We have thought that those two in the workhouse could be them. Thanks Clare.

I was told that Walter Miller got married to someone called Minnie but I can not find the marriage. He commited suicide some time after 1950 because his daughter got pregnant out of wed lock. We think they moved to weston supermare . Any help on this would be appreciated. Thanks Clare.

We have found a Miller family at 31 Copperas Hill, Liverpool in the 1881 census, but doubt that the father went from being a Broker to being a dock labourer.
Any help?

The Mellor Family 1901 seem to be a match. Many thanks. This is Clare's mum Pat now.
Mum remembers her father James with a Kitchener moustache, flat cap and puttees. Sounds like the Manchester Regiment. Any info would be appreciated.
When James married Martha 1895 they both lived in Northington St., Manchester. This no longer seems to exist. He was a painter and she worked at Robertsons Jam factory.
We cannot trace where James and his father John were in the 1891 census, but think they were local to Manchester, and his father was still alive when they married. We do not know his mothers's name.
We would be grateful for any help.
