This is a possible for Edmund's birth (the names Edmund and Edward were often interchanged in the past):-

Name: James Edward Wild
Year of Registration: 1888
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Gateshead
County: Durham, Tyne and Wear
Volume: 10a
Page: 841

You would need the Edmund's marriage certificate to see if he names his father.

Hi Edwin,

I looked at the transcript for the 1911 census and this looks like your family.

Edmund James Wilde, is single aged 21 and says he was born in Gateshead, Co. Durham. His occupation is Coal Miner Putter.

He is a visitor with Robert and Hannah Trueman (who would possibly be your mother's grandparents and therefore your great-grandparents) at 85 Joicey Terrace, Oxhill, Stanley.

Robert is aged 41 and a Coal Miner Hewer from Collieryley (?)
Hannah is aged 36 from Beamish and they have been married 11 years.
It's possible that Hannah is Robert's second wife as Isabella would have been older than 11, or perhaps they had children before they were married.

UPDATE - Sorry - this may be the wrong family as I have just noticed that Edmund and Isabella have already been found by NinjaLady in the 1911 census living in the same household.

The only way to be certain is to buy your mother's birth certificate - the details have already been given for this.

Okay, we have some deaths for infant Edmund Wilds

Deaths Mar 1888 (99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WILD Edmund 1 Gateshead 10a 446
WILD Edmund 0 Bolton 8c 204

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deaths Jun 1888 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

WILD Edmund 0 Sheffield 9c 233

So, the Gateshead and Sheffield Edmund Wild's are out of the equation.
I also think we can discount the Edmund Wilde born in Bolton - probably a mis-spelling by the registrar that registered the death.

That just leaves these two as the 1890/1891 Edmunds would be too young:-

Births Dec 1886 (>99%)
Wilde Edmund Shoreditch 1c 129
Wilde Edmund Hatfield Northallerton 9d _35

Three Edmund Wilds born

Births Mar 1887 (>99%)
WILD Edmund Gateshead 10a 833

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1887 (>99%)
Wild Edmund Sheffield 9c 477

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Mar 1891 (>99%)
Wild Edmund Rochdale 8e 15

And 4 Edmund Wilde

Births Dec 1886 (>99%)
Wilde Edmund Shoreditch 1c 129
Wilde Edmund Hatfield Northallerton 9d _35

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Dec 1887 (>99%)
Wilde Edmund Bolton 8c 323

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Births Mar 1890 (>99%)
Wilde Edmund Prescot 8b 675

I think the ones in 1890 and 1891 are too late though.

The one born in Gateshead looks promising and could be traced on the census but you would really need the marriage certificate to confirm his father.

1911 census

HOUSEHOLD TRUEMAN ISABELLA F 1887 24 Lanchester Durham
HOUSEHOLD WILD EDMUND JAMES M 1889 22 Lanchester Durham

These two people are living in the same household in 1911.

i am only 100 pc of my grandmother .isabella trueman my grandfather i did not know. had heard of a billy ??i only heard that he was a runaway before he met gran. they lived in stanley co durham. think i picked up william and thought stanley co durham .not yorkshire i only know he also was a miner.looks like castleford is wrong?? how confusing . my mother was jessie wild born 1915 oxhill stanley co durham thanks ed

KathleenBell Report 1 May 2009 09:44

If you work backwards from yourself, is it Isabella Trueman or William Wild that you are certain is your ancestor, and where did they live?

As already stated Isabella did not marry William, she married Edmund, and there is nothing to connect Isabella to the William Wild on the 1901 census born in Castleford.

CherryBlossom Report 1 May 2009 09:33

Here are three William Wilds born c1877 in Yorkshire on the 1911 census

HOUSEHOLD WILD WILLIAM M 1876 35 Huddersfield Yorkshire West Riding

HOUSEHOLD WILD WILLIAM M 1879 32 Dartford Kent

HOUSEHOLD WILD WILLIAM OGDEN M 1874 37 Dewsbury Yorkshire West Riding

I think we can discount the last one due to the middle name. The second one also doesn't look likely but he may just have moved.

It might be worth paying to view the transcript for the first entry to see if this is your man.

Isabella Trueman married Edmund Wilde.

Marriages Dec 1912 (>99%)

Trueman Isabella S Wilde Lanchester 10a 686
WILDE Edmund J Trueman Lanchester 10a 686

If you use Free BMD and click on the ref no it brings up the other names .

So, are you looking for William or Edmund?

CherryBlossom Report 1 May 2009 09:19

Edwin

I think there is a little confusion here. These are the marriage details for the marriage given below

Marriages Dec 1912 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

CUSKEARN James Wade Lanchester 10a 686
Trueman Isabella S Wilde Lanchester 10a 686
Wade Margaret A Cuskearn Lanchester 10a 686
WILDE Edmund J Trueman Lanchester 10a 686

As you can see, this is a registration for an Edmund Wilde not William Wild. So, I don't think this is a marriage for your man I'm afraid.
