But why would there of been a George Jones 2, but a John whittle 6. In the 1911 census, if Annie married a Jones first????
Holly.

Holly Report 9 May 2009 16:43

And also Annie's maiden name was Merrick not Jones.
Holly.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 9 May 2009 16:55

But how do you explain the children that you named on your original post being the children of Annie Jones on the censuses and Annie was single?
The names Tom, Georgina and Lucy are not that common. It's too much of a coincidence.

Just gets more confusing, Jeanette!
I can't find that Georgina Merrick on the 1891 census.

Jeanette

Jeanette Report 9 May 2009 17:58

Hi Margaret

sorry, didn't mean to cause more confusion

I can't find Georgina Merrick on 1891 either but dob matches with Georgina Jones in census you posted earlier. Nor can I find a suitable birth for Georgina Jones!

I also can't find a marriage for Annie Merrick to Jones

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 9 May 2009 18:16

Curious, isn't it?
I suppose Georgina Merrick could have been a daughter of Annie before she married Jones and then took her stepfather's name. But that doesn't account for the fact that Annie said she was single on all of the censuses. Also the fact that Annie had her brother Herbert living with her and he was a Jones and I traced them both back.
I think I'll have to give it up for a lost cause!

I spoke to my Nan again today and she said that Tom, Georgina and Lucy had a sister called Cissy, who had a son called George. And as she wasn't married her mom took him on as her own. That explains why their was a 2 year old George on the census!!
Holly.
