He then appears in the 1911 census
Henry was a miner in Chopwell with his wife Mary & 5 children. Frances, Richard, Rachael, Maggie & Harriet.

But I am unable to find him in 1901 census and I know very little about Mary Baty to confirm any info on her.

I can not find a marriage either.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

I think Mary was born Hexham Northumberland, but not 100% sure, sorry...

If he was a minor he may have been underground on the 1901 census so dos'nt show up

According to a tree on Ancestry Henry/Harry married a Mary Elizabeth.Their first child was Richard 1902.Henry's parents the same as yours.
Marriage for a Henry Coulthard in Gateshead V10a Page 1470 O/N/D. to a mary Elizabeth Dunn.
Richard was born J/F/M 1902 V10a page 1110

I would say that this is your Henry.

Well.... My cousin was convinced Mary's maiden/previous name was Baty, But certainly there is a Coulthard Dunn marriage that matches.... Thanks to Mary for that.

Mary Elizabeth Baty married Frank Dunn in 1898.

I can only find one Frank Dunn in the 1901 census age 22 living with his parents but there is a 3 year old Frank there too.

Oh... Maybe Frank went back home? But little Frank is a mystery.... Why would she leave her child? But ...Maybe, she was having an affair with Henry, especially in 1901, she may not have had any choice?

All children were registered after 1911 with the mother's maiden name which is the name of her birth parents and not the name she acquired through any previous marriages. So all of her children would be registered with MMN Batey and not Dunn.

These are the Frances Coulthards on the 1911 and the 1909 would fit your couple but the second name suggests a mothers maiden name and there is a birth on the index.
