Hi , Thank you so much for all the info I now have. I am going to sort through all this and let my dad look at it. Once this is done I will get back to you. I think that the Carpenters at 35 Palmerston Rd on the 1911 census are the correct family and moved up the road to 74 sometime before my dad was born in 1929. I would like to find out if the Annie carpenter James was married to died sometime in Sept 1918. This would then fit that my grandmother Annie Franklin married him in about 1921. I also think that the Annie Franklin who was a childrens nurse aged 25 is possibly my grandmother. Will look into that too.

Do you have James' death certificate? If not, I would perhaps rethink his year of death and place some interest in the 1950 one in Hendon.
He sounds quite a good bet as in the 1911 census he has children with names that your father believes he remembers ie George & William.

Thanks to everyone who posted a reply. I think the reply from Moody Blue is the marriage of my grandfather and grandmother. I'm not so sure about the birth as my grandmothers birthday was in march and she died in Nov. Also to Christine I am wading through all the births you sent and will let my dad look through them to see if he recognises any of them.
