Yes he did have it rough, but like my mum says nothing ever stopped him producing children lol. She said they were very poor but they were always well fed and warm, but she did say sometimes she wished she could have had a new dress instead of a full tummy. my surviving relatives all have a good sense of humour and i think this came from Grandad.
I wish i could have met them.

Yes he did work for wm pickup and my mum has just told me that was her uncle Bill. On his army records he his down as william L Bell.

Helen, I see from your Grandads army records that he worked for Messrs Wm Pickup for 10 years as a Tinsmith. That tends to prove that it is the correct family in 1911 as one of his sisters married William Pickup.

Your Grandpa had it pretty rough in his life time!

I think you really need your grandfather's birth certificate to prove his mothers maiden name as this reg if it is him seems to indicate it was Boardman

although you can just look up a name and place of birth/residence,
you have to buy credits to look at the household in detail.

I believe that we were on the right track with Margaret Ann Bell marrying James Boardman and then living with Bannister Longworth until his death. Perhaps it would be an Idea to summerise the events in her life and see how they look.

I could do with a direct line to my dear departed ancestors, wouldn't it be good if you could just give them a ring. I did find a death for Bannister Longworth in 1898, and i am presuming that its the same bannister because he doesn't show up in the 1901 census with margaret.
Where did you find the 1911 census?

Oh dear i am even more confused lol.... i do know that my grandad William Boardman / longworth/ bell used Longworth Bell as his main name and my mothers maiden name is Bell. The confusion lies with my Great Grandma Margaret Ann Boardman/Longworth/ Bell, I am still following the theory that you came up with Brenda that Bell was her maiden name.
Bannister Longworth did have another family (if its the same man, which i think it will be) and i think it must have left them to live with Margaret.
Oh Crikey do you think i will ever solve it....Trouble is my other ancestors have the same sort of things happening they certainly are a rum lot lol.

Possibly because all her children were fathered by Bannister Longworth they may have chosen to use his name after he was deceased - afterall they were neither Bell nor Boardman really! If that was the case she may well have felt the need to be the same as her children - a Longworth.

this could be the Margaret Longworth in the 1911 census Moody Blue gave you - thouigh I must admit the children's biths match

With regards to the child Elizabeth Boardman born 1881, there are two births for that quarter in Bolton:-
