Find Ancestors

Can you look up the birh date of Thomas Burgess who was married to Rachael Simpson, date unknown assume married after birth of illigitimate child John in 1803 in Overton then married to Rachel Primer on Nov. 9 1819 in Overton, he was a widower.

Found marriage record to Rachel Primer but no parents were indicated.

Looking to find his parents' names.

Children with Rachael Simpson were: John 1803, William 1805, Sarah 1806, James 1807, Anne 1809, Septimus 1811.

Children with Rachel Primer were: James 1814, Charles 1816, George 1817.

All records that I have found were from Overton Hampshire at the Hampshire records office.

I also found a death record of a Thomas Burgess in Overton dies on 19 Oct. 1817, so that makes his birth date in 1763. Not sure if it is him. At his Charles' marriage, Thomas was deceased and no mother's name was indicated on certificate.

Thanks. When I visited Hampshire Records a few weeks ago, I noticed in the Overton Parish records that the year 1763 ws missing...maybe this is the problem.

Is there any way of contacting St. Mary's parish in Overton directly? Could not find a telephone number for the parish online.

He must have been born in Overton or Whitchurch, but nothing came up for Whitchurch in the year 1763!

Just now found online the marriage record to Rachel Simpson was 4 April 1804, but no parents' names. Pallott's Marriage Records for Hampshire.

OMG!

Thank you so much, how do you find the information? I was on ancestry and nothing came up for me.

I noticed that he died in Whitchurch and the birth of his children and marriages to both Rachels were in Overton. Hampshire records show Overton. Strange.

I have ancestors from Overton and I believe the Overton registers are incomplete before 1833 !

Is this the same Thomas marrying twice ? - if so I cannot find a baptism for a Thomas to fit !

Esther GIRDLER was baptised at Crondall 03 March 1765 d George & Esther

It must be two different Thomas Burgess' as the one born in 1776 would not be marrying at 16 a woman 11 years his senior-would he ?

Are the Ancestry entries "submitted" or "extracted" ?

Thomas married 3 times all in Overton:

1) Esther Girdler or Taylor in 1792 (I saw Taylor in one record is it the same?..she might have been married before she married Thomas?) I found 2 children with her Thomas 1796 and Timothy in abt 1800 cant find records
2) Rachael Simpson in 1804 9 children with her
3) Rachel Primer in 1819

I believe he died in 1841 at the age of 65 in Overton. Makes sense bcse he was deceased on his son's Charles marriage certificate.

He had children with Esther, and Rachael simpson, I found those in Hampshire Records office. Esther I did not know about.

As to Thomas marrying a woman 14 years older is maybe not too unusual. Maybe he had a hard life at home and she offered comfort, who knows. Women married older men LOL!

I saw a Esther Girdler and an Esther Taylor marrying a Thomas Burgess in Overton in same year! Pallott's Marriage Records.

Here is a record of marriage in 1784 for Hesther Girdler marrying a John TAYLOR...she was a widow when she married Thomas!

My GGG Grandfather was James Burgess. He married in Overton in 1833. James died in Overton in 1835 age 32.

Perhaps my James is related to Thomas Burgess ?

Has anyone come across a James Burgess baptism c1803 in Overton ?

Yes. James was born in Overton on 22 Feb 1807 and died in July 1807. However, another boy was born and he was named James as well on 22 May 1814 in Overton.

Could this be the same? You have the dates wrong.

I recently travelled to England and went to Hampshire Records Office in Winchester and this is where I discovered this information.

Mother was Rachael Simpson......Thomas Burgess and Rachael Simpson married on 4 April 1804. They did have a son named John born in 1803 out of wedlock.

Let me know if this is the same.
