Hi,
Bromley east London at that time would have been middlesex, and the church may have been St Paul's on the Common, (my grandparents were married there) also what orphanage are you talking about, I often go to the archives at Northampton Row and they if anyone would know what happened to the records cant go till the school hols though.
Regards Joan.

.....................

There 'may' be a connection through one of George Knox's marriages to the name Jones ?

It looks as though poor George was widdowed more than once but I need to follow this
through before I post the info - I do not want to confuse with the wrong info!!

Will work on it!

i keep saying thank you, but i am so amazed how you guys piece all this together, i am fairly new to it all, (we never would have guessed :-)
and kind of muddle thro. the sites i use are freeBDM, genes gold member but get lost on the BDM listings cos they dont say who married who.and family search and the deaths/births again to me are just lists.
can i ask where you search.and how did you tie the brothers together....confused of Adelaide (but oh so keen to learn)

Hi Cindy,

It's just a matter of 'plodding' through the census's I am afraid.

On this occasion, I took the family who I think is the one on 1891.

I couldn't find them together on 1901 so looked at each of the children's names individually.

I found Robert with the Jones's and noticed that there was a William also but the age was wrong so I went back to 1891 to check image and realised that it was mistranscribed as age 4 when it actually said 11 !! - This then fitted.

I think I have Arthur also - he is with a family in Chester but I don't think they are at all related - the family also have another child boarding with them so perhaps they are just 'carers' of some sort/?? :

...........

I think Jane may have married but may have to leave that one until tomorrow. - You could see if you can find one on FreeBmd?

I personally find the Ancestry site best for census info and it is much better value than any other site I have found.

Best of luck,

Dea x

P.S.

Sadly, I think Jane may have died:

I am stunned at what you have found, i assume as you get used to searching it becomes easier. To me alot of it is hard to tie together at the moment, and because i wanted so much to find him etc i couldnt find him. i am aware it is probably easy to get mis-leads and how easy it could be to make them fit, but i couldnt even get that far. I also made the mistake of assuming, records are always correct.
My mum has never known aything except the snippits i gave you about her father so it is, for us a huge thing. thank you.
i will be on line again your a.m if you are around

Hi Cindy,

I haven't been able to identify a birth but the address they gave on their marriage cert comes up on an address search on 1911 census.

24 CARMEN ST POPLAR Poplar Borough Poplar London

It could be worth viewing the transcription to see if there were any family members living with him.
