Find Ancestors

thank you.......I have just found the children on 1871 census as visitors - there seems to be no family connection to the people he is staying with.....also notice there is a brother to Sophia Frederick........slowly getting there......

Frederick Gee married Ellen Nichol(s) 1861 Jun Q Southampton and in1871 she is shown as lodger aged 29 in southampton , married and styled "wife of Engineer" -but where is Sophia?

Birth cert will give you mothers name

I have noticed that on 1881 census Helena is with her stepdaughter Sophia E Gee - this was obviously Fredericks daughter from his first marriage.........the daughter is 18 and born Southampton.........can anyone help me find her in 1871 to parent Frederick or wife who is by herself or if Sophia is staying with relatives.........

the 1891 census looks correct........as I know her father was thomas turner so all adds up.......its just that on the death index there is a Helena Gee born 1848 died 1902 woolwich.......the exact date she was born .....and its under the name Gee as the 1901 census
It looks to me that Michael Barry and Helena Gee married early 1891....and looks like he died later the same year ( after the census)....

Pay to look at the 1911 census and see if the address is the same as his marriage cert
He might have knocked a few years of his marriage cert. How old was his wife from the cert?

can anyone help me get my head round the three census pieces of information Maureen has attached........1881 + 1901 Helena gee.........but it looks like the same Helena in 1891 is married to someone else which cannot be right as she is still a Gee in 81 +1901 dying 1902 I think

Also is there any way of tracing someone who travvelled as an engineer in the merchant service around 1875????

thinking about this still!!!!!! - Maureen I think you are 100% right - I assume their is an error on the marriage cert I have........I am sure it must mean Helena not Ellen..............the only thing is there is a Helena Gee who died 1902.............so that throws a spanner in the works with regards her remarrying or the strange 1891
census - the 1881 +1901 seem to be right just strange about 1891

So we know she was born c1850 Greenwich kent.......Ellen/Helen/Helena Thomlinson......I know Thomlinson is her married name as she was a widow when she married again in 1875........will have to try and find her maiden name and first marriage!

I am not sure if the cert is relevant.......it could be sending me on a wild goose chase.....I should still consider .the information you supplied Maureen ........there is also a tomlinson marriage but dated 1871 devon......this cannot be the parents of his wife Ellen who married 1875!!!!

unless I can find a birth I think my search will come to an end!

thanks.........I am tracing this for my uncle........who is not my direct blood line.......he has very little info but has been left a few certificates and we are trying to get our heads round them..........Albert Henry Gee was born c1880...........amoungst the certificates is a marriage for FREDERICK GEE WIDOWER ENGINEER FULL AGE MARRYING ELLEN THOMLINSON FULL AGE WIDOW.....their marriage is 1875 CAPE TOWN SOUTH AFRICA...........now I am confused

You might want to look at the 1911. Albert Henry GEE in Woolwich-age 32 occ: carman and see where he was born. It looks as though he's with a May GEE. (although I didn't look that hard.)

Have you searched Jee as a surname.
I have a Burnett/Jee family who moved into woolwich/charlton plumstead area. It is possible other members of Elizabeth Jee's family moved there.

cant seem to find his birth record either - if he was 29 in may 1911 he should have been born c1882
