A year on and still none the wiser as to weather Ann/Ellen is the same person, the twins were born 1880 and the mothers name on the birth cert says Ellen and not Ann.
And still have not found out were the name Bryant comes in to it all.
Looks like i may have to dig out all of the paperwork and start back tracking to see if i have missed anything.

Hi

Nope we cannot work out if Ann is Ellen or if its the same family???I do believe Thomas William Vicary's mother was named Mary?

None of the census seem to match up for the twins, this has confused us some what

This is a possible marriage for the Vicary parents. Elizabeth says she was born Westminster and St Martin's in the Fields is in that area.

Marriages Jun 1857
Bex Frederick St Martin in the F 1a 596
Nicholls Elizabeth St Martin in the F 1a 596
POTTER Barbara St Martin in the F 1a 596
Vicary Thomas William St Martin in the F 1a 596

However we haven't found how the name Bryant is in the family.

Also on the 1881 Elizabeth is down as married, not widowed.

This is Thomas J Vicary with siblings and mother, his wife was Ellen Jane Taylor but we do not know where she was at this time.
I think his father has already passed away by this time.

Samantha

Samantha Report 11 Aug 2009 20:46

Ok, so we now know where Warren comes from as it was the mothers maiden name and Edwina was a name that was in the family alot, but i still havent as yet managed to discover where the name Bryant came from.

There was a Sarah Coward down as nurse in the 1861 census for Edwin and Charlotte's household, and the name Frances Coward in 1818. Presumably not coincidence.

Although no one has said, what folk are doing is looking up the GRO index at:
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl

It's real easy when you know the answer, so lets look for Edwin Taylor marrying a Charlotte. We might play safer be checking phonetic sunames (in case it's down as Tailor) and also Charlot*, since this has variable spellings. We get 2 hits in Devon, one in Wolverhampton and one in Shaftesbury, where the census was:

Marriages Jun 1847 (>99%)
Taylor Edwin Shaftesbury 8 173

If we click on "Shaftesbury", then the more info "here" link, it tells us all the villages, etc in Shaftesbury Registration District.

If we click on the page # "173", it shows us all the people with certificates on the same page as Edwin. This obviously includes his bride, but we don't necessarily know who this is. However, we're lucky this time, and there's only one Charlotte, so it'll be her

Marriages Jun 1847 (>99%)
BRICKELL William Shaftesbury 8 173
Hatcher Elizabeth Shaftesbury 8 173
Huse James Shaftesbury 8 173
Peters Elizabeth Shaftesbury 8 173
>>Taylor Edwin Shaftesbury 8 173
>>WARREN Charlotte Shaftesbury 8 173

Armed with the info here (year, quarter, Rego D, vol=8 p=173) we can order the cert from the GRO for 7 GBP. Without that info, it costs 10 GBP, and that's assuming you got stuff pretty close.

5a is the volume number and 230 is the page number

This refers to the record book held at the General Register Office ....... commonly referred to as GRO.

You need those numbers when you order a certificate from GRO
