I think the Meyer family may have left England once before for a longer time (maybe the c1894 photo was on a visit) -- I had absolutely no luck finding them in 1881.

And that would be because in son Peter's 1901 household, there are:

Martha Myers 20 - born Marseilles, France! - c1880-1
Walter Myers 18 - born Paris, France! - c1882-3

So I suspect his family was in France at the time, and he and Hannah joined them shortly after the census.

In 1871, Peter's mother is Henriette. Both she and "Henrch" are shown as born in Hanover, Rothenberg. Was Henriette actually French?

You didn't actually expect to find that you were Continental, did you? ;)

I'm sending the images for

Sidney Hewitt in 1901 with mother Ameila (Onslow)
Hannah Myers in 1901 widowed with children
Peter Meyer in 1871 with parents
Peter Myers and Hannah in 1881

with best wishes for the wee one. ;)

Don't know if Henriette was French but I understand Nancy,France is more or less on the border with Germany, so that could be the answer. From what I remember of my grandmother Ellen Augusta and my great aunt 'Mart' I must say they had a certain je ne sais quoi, quite out of place in Islington in those
days!! Thank you for the pages,I'm just starting work on the other information supplied.

Well that's certainly him - because that amazing stroke of luck had him in the 1901 actually giving the *address* where he was born!

Here's the marriage:

Marriages Sep 1880
Hewitt Henry Walter Islington 1b 477
Payne Emily Islington 1b 477

But no luck finding them in 1881.

Unless she was going by Louisa!

1881

Civil parish: St Mary Islington
Street Address: Park St No 28

Henry Hewitt 24 - Engraver
Louisa Hewitt 21
Henry Hewitt 1

Nope, that's not them; in 1891 in Islington:

Henry Hewitt 34
Louisa K Hewitt 31
Henry T Hewitt 11
Louisa M Hewitt 9
Harold R Hewitt 8
George Hewitt 6
Amy Gertrude Hewitt 4
Margaret A Hewitt 1

Does the birth cert give Henry's occupation?

Linda here.
I can't believe all this information is actually out there. I got stuck at Sidney Charles Hewitt and Ellen Augusta Myers and without other known relatives or the opportunities to search properly I couldn't move past them. And all so interesting.

Hi Linda - I got your PMs and by the last one figured out that you had meant to write to Ann. You got that sorted? ;)

I hope so, if you two do have the same famlies!
