Thanks for letting me know Stephen, I do so hate to be beaten!!

I have just come back from shopping and had left it up on screen so I had another look and it did look like 'Feny' or 'Fany', but with only one 'n'.

Stephen Report 19 Sep 2009 12:11

but on 1881 census they both say married......so difficult to say!

Moody Blue

Moody Blue Report 19 Sep 2009 12:07

Do you think that perhaps they hadn't married by 1891 but "lived together" and for the sake of propriety concocted a relationship? A good start would be one of those birth certificates!

Stephen

Stephen Report 19 Sep 2009 12:06

Dea, dont waste your time looking at that one! the one with George is alot clearer and definately says Frances Fanny

Stephen

Stephen Report 19 Sep 2009 11:59

that makes sense that she was frances fanny pyefinch........need to order one of the certificates to get her maiden name!

why sisterinlaw on 1891 census? and william as single?

Stephen

Stephen Report 19 Sep 2009 11:56

thanks Dea, I couldnt make it out either......and I put it on the maximum size!

Dea

Dea Report 19 Sep 2009 11:29

I have looked at the image Stephen and I really cannot make it out... dratt!!!!

All I can say is that I do NOT think it is Mary. - If you compare it to the rest of the handwriting on the page, the 'lines' of the first letter are too straight for an 'M'. The top of the letter resembles his letter 'H' or even an 'F' but it is too 'blurry' to make it out.

I have stared at it for ages but can't see it. I will have another look later.

Sorry,

Stephen Report 19 Sep 2009 09:24

Can anyone read and double check the original baptism record on ancestry for me .....PLEASE :o)

with regards the middle initial F.....this could be wrong as Williams middle name is John and there has been errors on some of his census with regards initials.......he is down on that one as William H....when it should be William J

So, ok fanny is a nickname for Frances.....but why on 1891 does it say sister in law????????????

Selena in South East London

Selena in South East London Report 18 Sep 2009 21:17

Just one other point, it says Francis F - where did middle initial come from?

Stephen

Stephen Report 18 Sep 2009 20:32

VERY INTERESTING..........on ancestry records

Herbert Edward Pyefinch Baptism 10 Jun 1874 William John Pyefinch,Frances Pyefinch Saint John, Woolwich Greenwich

PLEASE CAN ANYONE CHECK THIS ON ANCESTRY - I AM HAVING TROUBLE READING IT! SEARCH FOR HERBERT PYEFINCH IN ENGLAND ONLY - NO COUNTIES 1870-1880......THEN IT WILL COME UP WITH LONDON ENGLAND BIRTHS AND BAPTISMS 1813-1906........YOU CAN VIEW THE ORIGINAL RECORD........WHAT DOES IT SAY NEXT TO FRANCES.....LOOKS LIKE MARY IN BRACKETS TO ME!??? THIS MAY BE ANOTHER CLUE!

So, the 1891 census looks correct...........but why does it say sister in law and william single........how could it be SO wrong?

Stephen

Stephen Report 18 Sep 2009 20:25

I'll order the certificate, thanks
