Well looks like no duplication was done. GR does not give helpful guidelines as standard so it does mean most people have to learn by making mistakes. There are several threads members have put up with helpful tips. Reading them will certainly work to your advantage.

Some people delete replies quickly so do copy and paste anything you are given even if is a maybe to mull over.

Apologies if I broke any rules. I am unused to this level of helpfulness and certainly wouldn't want to upset anyone or waste anyones time.

It is actually myself that I want to trace. I was born in a British Military hospital overseas, and although I have my birth certificate I am interested to know how it is registered. Are they/were they sent back in batches or when I came to UK (parents were in military)?

I delete the M and F for male and female, because I've seen the unaccustomed think they are middle initials. I rejoin the two parts of the place of birth to eliminate an unnecessary line for each person, and eliminate the "VIEW" that only serves to confused, since it doesn't apply at this site. And get rid of whatever the rest of that was. Isn't it prettier now?!

Frankly, I would probably also delete the details about the completely unrelated people. One of my favourites is when someone finds an individual in a workhouse or military barracks ... and dumps the entire list of 50 completely irrelevant people in the same institution into a post here.

In the list there you will see:

Armed forces births 1761-1994

As I understand, they are not transcribed, and what you get is a page of entries to read for a particular date range.

Ladykira may have the right subscription to be able to look there for you.

Being a total foreigner, I don't know how one then gets a birth certificate in that situation, but I imagine it's not too complex and someone should be able to tell you.

I am sorry but I have not mastered wading through military births yet. I work full time so I do not have the luxury of time yet.

I also thoght it worthwhile putting the household of the 1881 census in this case as it gives insight into her situation at the time she became pregnant. Maybe one of the was the father?

I was thinking the same Ladykira, (about the poss father). Please don't apologise, I really appreciate your help. I have no problem with 'the bumpfh' I just thought I had misinterperated it.
I particularly appreciate your help as I too work, and I have had the luxury of a week off without work or study. My geneology background is that I did a lot of footwork research in the 80's and can't believe how quick it is with the internet now. I have revisited my research this week and have had a great time reading letters from my uncle and father.
There was a general understanding that Mary Ann's family received a small shop as recompense for bringing up the child (my Grandmother Anna Louisa)
To put it into perspective - I wanted to call my Dad and tell him about the info you found for me - unfortunately, he is no longer with us, but it means a lot.

How interesting - the level of errors. I would expect more errors in earlier censuses. Eg Elias mother Patience was registered as 'Passiones', and here, Ethel Annies name was Patience. More importantly the 'H' on Nothcot(h).
I would love to find out what Elias Herbert did during WW1. He was a mover and shaker in local politics and was a founder member of the 'No-Ware Movement' in London following his exdperiences. I reckon he was gassed. I have a picture of him taken months before his untimely death from lung cancer at the age of 44 (he looks older than his son did at 88).

The mistranscription may have occured at the time of the census or at the time of trying to read it. You have an idea of what it supposed to say but the person trying to read an old document may be struggling with difficult writing or faded documents.

Northcotts: Sydney, Elizabeth, Sydney George Edward, and George & Grace Wescombe; 49 Grays Rd Taunton.
I guess George is Elizabeths brothers and Grace her mother?? Were they widowed or visiting?

I have a Rachel Northcott bc 1766 Norton Fitzwarren who I've been struggling with for some time. The only record (FreeReg) I can find of her is her marriage to John Harris (transcribed as John Harr) on 8 July 1791 in Norton Fitzwarren. I can also find two children Betty bc 1792 and John bc 1796.

I would like any details of Rachel especially which specific Northcott family is she a member of?

Re military births.

Our son was born in Cyprus 1973. My OH went to the office at Head Quarters Near East Air Force on Cyprus with the doctor's form stating Iain had been born, just the same as our daughter in UK. An officer acted as a registrar. The birth certificate was done almost immediately by the officer.

When I came out of the WRAF I had to deal with the consulate at the British High Commission (Commonwealth country) in Nicosia, capital city of Cyprus, to get a passport as I travelled to Cyprus by RAF ID card. As soon as we had the birth certificate we sent it to the high commission to get our son on my passport as we flew home on posting when he was only 28 days old.

It may be that our son, like all the military births overseas was registered by the Commission (or embassy) via the RAF. My husband seems to think our son and daughter's registration was the same in Cyprus and Lincoln for his part in the registration.

How they get back to UK would either be by diplomatic pouch or could be service mail. It may be sent quarterly to meet each quarters deadlines, the same with marriages and deaths.

There would be someone acting as a registrar wherever you were born and your father would have gone through the same process as if he was in UK.

The registrar's job would be an occasional job as and when required as births, deaths and marriages weren't as numerous as dealt with in UK.

Although we don't know the whole process I hope this helps a little.
