this is a long shot but i am hopeing something comes out of this...
my grandmother and grandfather died long before i was born so i never had the pleaseure of meeting them....i have never even seen a photo as my father never had any!
i have pictures of my grandfather (given to me when a relative died)

so all i need now to fit the missing piece of my life is to get a photo of my gandmother.
wich is why i am hopeing to trace living relatives who might have some photos.

grandmothers name - HELEN S C KERR
born 1914 - died 1957
she was born and raised in anderston, glasgow.

her mothers name - ANNIE KERR(NEE COPELAND)
born - 1886

her father name - ARCHIBALD McVICKER KERR
born - 1881 died - 1947

my grandmother had 7 siblings

WILLIAM KERR(died while working govan shipyards)
DONALD KERR
ARCIBALD KERR
JAMES KERR
ALAN KERR
JESSIE KERR
CHRISTINE KERR

I DONT KNOW BIRTHDATES FOR ANY OF THE ABOVE BUT HOPEFULLY ALL ARE STILL LIVING.

i would really appreciate any help, as i just feel as though part of me is missing because i never met my grandmother and have never even sen a picture of her......

i hope someone can help me in my search for relatives....and to fit the missing piece of my jigsaw.

thank you

paul

Your first start is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

It's a pay as you go site, but will enable you to find births out and marriages, and if your very clever deaths. In Scotland a female retains her birth identity, so upon death it is registered in both names and therefore easier to find!

I have the current ER and can search for males (easier they don;t change names) but we need to work on where they could be now, whom they married etc etc.

I just need to add, if all these siblings were born around the 1914 mark then it's very very unlikely they are still alive today.

i should take some lessons!!

Paul Report 22 Nov 2009 15:05

p.s i know william died about 1920 in a fatal accident at govan shipyards!

WayneTracey

WayneTracey Report 22 Nov 2009 15:06

ok well Scotlands people is easy. you know the MMn is Copeland, so select death, only enter Kerr as the surname and Copeland as the mothers maiden name and bingo you have 3 deaths.

Because Christina retains her original female identity when she dies, it give her marriaed name in the 'other names' column.

So now we know she married a Walker, from their ages at death and the years of death we can deduce their rough birth year!

Easy lol

I don't know where you live but if it is Glasgow or Edinburgh (or commuting distance) then the best way is a visit to either the Scotlandspeople centre in Edinburgh or Park Circus in Glasgow. Both need advanced booking with a longer waiting list for the Glasgow one. If you go to either of these places you can view births after 1908, marriages after 1933 and deaths after 1958. Edinburgh cost £10 for a day pass and Glasgow around £17. You will then be able to look for descendants of your Grans siblings and maybe even get some current address from any death certificates or marriage certificates of their grandchildren.

Hope this helps

Good Luck

On Scotlandspeople you need to buy the certificates if the births are after 1908, marriages after 1933 and deaths after 1958. I think they cost about £14 each -so quite expensive. You cannot view these using credits. You can see them on the indexes as Tracey is doing for you.

The most cost effiecient way is, as I have said to visit Edinburgh or Glasgow search rooms.

As Christina died in Kelvingrove, my money would be on this being Gordon

1950 WALKER GORDON M KELVINGROVE GLASGOW/LANARK 644/09 0598

I'll take a look at Walkers in Kelvingrove on the ER

I agree with Root,

Half my side are Scottish and while you can 'cheat the system' with using females it's harder with males.

If you order a cert it can tale upto 4/6 weeks to arrive, it's very very painful lol

hi tracey.

i know gordon is still living.
he is being looked after by someone, but i have tried to contact him and the person that cares for him will not reply to my messages or anything.

so i dont want to push it, and hassle them.

wich is why i was trying to search any other living relatives.
