Ah. ;)

Yup. Tracey -- do get the Annie + Edward marriage certificate.

When you receive it, come on back to this thread -- click "My threads" over on the left side to find it any time. And add a post with all the info from the marriage certificate (place, ages, fathers, witnesses) and we'll return to the charge!

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 1 Dec 2009 20:59

If Edward - born JunQ 1912 - is their son, which seems highly likely - then the marriage also in JunQ 1912 probably DID happen in a registry office.

I think the only certain thing is to send off for that marriage cert ...

That's where I've been looking Janey - but they are parish records and would not include the registry offices - which is why I wondered.

The marriage is at about mid-page 1:

Marriages Jun 1912
Buck Edward A Stembridge Islington 1b 675
STEMBRIDGE Annie Buck Islington 1b 675

Tracey, you really really do have to start there.

Unless, MsG, that super index I don't pay for access to at Ancestry has that one too??

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!)

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 1 Dec 2009 20:44

Didn't spot that 1901 - but it matches which at least, as you say, connects them in.

I cannot spot Annie and Edward's marriage - tried all sorts of combos. I wonder if they married in a registry office maybe? Either that or they are both mistranscribed!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Dec 2009 20:39

That's terrific - at least it confirms that the people in the 1901 and 1911 censuses -- Ellen and Annie Stembridge -- are all the same, with parents Thomas and Ellen. That father Thomas in 1901 was a wine & spirit merchant's cellarman.

(MrsG -- the 1901 is right near the top of page 1.)

What Tracey needs is the Annie + Edward marriage certificate to find out who her Annie's father was, now!

The marriage above:

Thomas was a seaman and his father was a bricklayer.

Ellen was a domestic servant and her father was a cellarman.

Address for both is 116 Cottenham Road.

Wits:
Arthur Sidney Barnard
Mable Stembridge
Thomas Stembridge.

If Ellen is Anne's sister then you may be able to find the family in 1901.

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Dec 2009 20:24

Tracey -- the only way to connect a birth to a census record is to get the birth certificate that shows the same parents as are in the census household!

But you start with what you know. In this case, it is the marriage of Annie and Edward. You get that marriage certificate, and it gives you both spouses' fathers' names and occupations, as well as the spouses' ages.

We all have to do that. Certificates are the only reliable links in a chain. You order them here:

http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/

You have to know *something* about these people or you wouldn't be looking for them!!

A sibling's name, a child's name ...?

There has got to be something you can tell us about them other than when Annie died and whom she married. And it likely would have saved a lot of blind man's buff here.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Dec 2009 20:18

1911 census

STEMBRIDGE ANNIE 1894 17 Islington London
GARTERS ELLEN JUBILEE 1888 23 Islington London
GARTERS THOMAS WILLIAM GEORGE 1910 1 Islington London

Ellen Garters would be the sister Ellen J Stembridge who was 13 in the 1901 census.

No apparent marriage for her, however.

Births Mar 1910
GARTERS Thomas William G Islington 1b 170

Here we are:

Marriages Jun 1909
GARTERS Thomas William Islington 1b 421
HEMBRIDGE Ellen Jubilee Islington 1b 421

Tracey

Tracey Report 1 Dec 2009 20:14

Hi everyone, sorry i am a novice at this! I do appreciate all your help but still finding the results confusing as unable to connect their births to 1901 census information to be sure who they are! thanks Tracy

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Dec 2009 20:00

And Edward's death, I presume:

Name: Edward Arthur Buck
Birth Date: 2 Sep 1891
Death Registration Month/Year: Sep 1988
Age at death (estimated): 97
Registration district: Hereford
Inferred County: Herefordshire, Monmouthshire
Volume: 29
Page: 362

Likely making him the one posted above:

Births Sep 1891
Buck Edward Holborn 1b 673

Both seem to have adopted middle names not in their birth registrations.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Dec 2009 19:58

I just read Lesley's thread on Tips pointing out that Ancestry's 1984-2005 deaths index is now the whole thing, *1916* to 2005.

Name: Annie Gladys Buck
Birth Date: 30 Aug 1894
Death Registration Month/Year: Q1-Jan-Feb-Mar 1979
Registration district: Hereford
Inferred County: Hereford & Worcester
Volume: 29
Page: 0320

So now we know that her name WAS Annie, and not Anne as the header says, and as we have all been searching for.

Of course, Tracey could have given that info some time ago ...

So as I said:

Births Dec 1894
Stembridge Annie Pancras 1b 44

Could match DOB on death cert.

And the name.

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Dec 2009 19:34

Tracey, please. I really don't want to have to go fetch info from my inbox and bring it back here and copy it into the thread here. (Like most such private messages, yours doesn't even have a name in it, so if I happened not to have seen it until tomorrow, I would have been searching around my threads list to figure out what it was about ...)

Please use the purple REPLY button at the top of the thread and add a post here with the info you sent me!

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 1 Dec 2009 19:27

And then there's the separate thread about Edward Buck

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1191904

Tracey, would you post in the thread here -- use the purple Reply button -- and offer ALL the info you have? About both people. It makes far more sense to combine the searches.
