I've been trying to find a birth record for EDITH EVA MAY HARVEY for quite some time now.

1911 census gives her place of birth as CARBROOKE, NORFOLK and her age as 26.

I have her marriage certificate which gives her father as GEORGE HARVEY occupation 'KEEPER'. She was married on 13th August 1910 and her age then was also 26.

I'm sure this should be easy to find but I'm having no luck at all and would appreciate any help!

Thanks in anticipation.

Thank you glitter baby - not that one unfortunately, I already have the certificate.

Incidently if anyone would like a certificate for an Edith Harvey born in Norfolk I have three here I don't need and am happy to pass on if it is any use!

She was definitely from Norfolk.

It is Carbrooke (with an E) - a small village in the Breckland district of Norfolk - although I was always told she was born in Diss, Norfolk!

Jennifer Report 9 Dec 2009 17:18

Choccy - that one arrived in the post a few days ago - not that one either - the father's name was John. It's the only one in the Wayland Registration dsitrict anywhere near that time (Carbrooke was Wayland and now Breckland I think).

Stuck!

Liverbird - Those are both her and I have both certs here. Neither give a dob and worse still, the death cert has the wrong age (53) Family knowledge, marriage cert and 1911 census records all agree she would have been 56 when she died.

Thankyou Vera. I eventually found the one in Sutton, Surrey and the father's name was John. I found her later on and it gave pob as Lewisham.

I think I'm going to order the cert for the one in Fleggs. I know a fair bit about her now, she has the correct fathers name and worked as a domestic servant (like my gr grandmother was before she married) the only problem is she was born in Caister which is miles away from Carbrooke.

There is only one other born in Norfolk around that time with the right fathers name and he was a police superintendant - surely someone in the family would have remembered that! She was born in Garboldisham (guiltcross reg district) which is closer to Carbrooke than Caister.

Oh I'm not sure which to get now! Any thoughts?

Thanks Vera, Yes, that's the one I am thinking I should get the birth certificate for. Hopefully it will give the full name and confirm it is her.

Jennifer,
That is the problem with family treeing......I can only tell what I did to find my grandmothers birth, I must have sent for 5 birth certificate if not more. Trouble is it costs as we know !!! But I did find her...I was sooooo pleased.

I might be wrong.....but the Edith Harvey with the policeman father (1901 census) surely she would have put police man etc on her marriage certificate....

Is keeper another name for a policeman ???

Oh, I do hope you find her....please if you don't mind, keep me informed.

Regards Vera

Jennifer

Jennifer Report 10 Dec 2009 12:16

Well, yes I have absolutely no idea what sort of Keeper he was. I googled and found inn-keepers, game-keepers, store-keepers, livery yard-keepers and even a pool table keeper! I can't think of any type of keeper that would be police related and I would think it unlikely he would change from that profession. Most inconsiderate of them really not to spare a thought for me 100 years later trying to find out all about them and guessing what sort of keeper he was.

I'll let you know what happens when the Caister certificate arrives.

I'm assuming that if she used the middle names Eva May for her mariage certificate they would also be on her birth certificate? Did she have to give a copy of her birth certificate to prove her identity at marriage? I have a horrible feeling I'm not going to get the answer I want to hear from those two questions! Does anyone know?

Thanks for the n Vera.

The casiter certifacte arrived but without any middle names. It is the closest match of all the certificates I can find so what I am trying to do now is see if there is a baptism record for this Edith Harvey with these parents that gives the middle names Eva May

I have started another thread (probably should have continued on this one really - sorry folks) in the hope that someone could do a look up for me. Not having much luck so far though.
