My Great great granny Annie Exton nee Moore,
I have been searching for her birth and parents for age's, I need help........
imformation I have is, she married in Boston, Lincs in 1874.
he father was named as William Moore, a labourer, it does not state whether he was dead or a live.
on 1881 census she say's she came from Gosberton, Lincs ,and gives her age as 23 yrs,
any help in knocking down this brickwall would help me sleep at night,
big thank you .

There is something strange here
In 1871 there is a Moore family in Fosdyke lincs
Earls march Farm house
John Moore 38 Groundkeeper b Fosdyke
Rebecca 38 wife born Helpingham
William 13
John 12
Susannah 10
Anthony 8
Martha 7
Robert 5 all born GOSBERTON
Elizabeth 3
Mary 3 (twins) both born Fosdyke

1861 has what looks like the same family but under a totally different name

Gosberton lincs Donington Road
John Blancher 28 Ag Lab b Fosdyke
Rebecca 28 b Helpingham
ANN 5 b Helpingham
William 3 b Gosberton
John 2 b Gosberton
Susannah 2mths b Gosberton
I wil now see what I can find under Blancher!

GillianMac Report 23 Dec 2009 20:27

Ann Moore appears 1871 as servant 15 b Donington to Belt family in Fosdyke
( a fly in the ointment is that an Ann Blancher married in 1880 Sleaford though there are 3 brides to 2 grooms!) )but I dont believe in a coindidence so great that all the first names and ages and places of birth match and feel it is the same family

Her siblings appear to have kept the name Blancher in years up to 1901 so the change is a mystery

GillianMac

GillianMac Report 23 Dec 2009 20:41

Ela -I think you need to get the marriage cert from 1875 for Annie's marriage to Tom Exton which will give her fathers name and occupation and witnesses might help if they are siblings still calling themselves Blancher

GillianMac

GillianMac Report 23 Dec 2009 21:17

John appears as Blancher right up to 1901 so it is the year 1871 that is out of sync with Moore
The son William (1857 Jun Q Spalding ) married in 1879 using the name Wiliam Moore Blancher at Glanford Brigg

GillianMac

GillianMac Report 23 Dec 2009 21:44

As a final (and addtionally confusing) piece before I go to bed,

John BLANCHARD married Rebecca Sharp 1855 Mar Q" Sleaford 2a 445
Rebecca Sharp appears 1851 as servant b Helpringham 1832 living in Wellingate

GillianMac

GillianMac Report 24 Dec 2009 13:40

Well this looks like the Moore connection
John Blanchard bap 18/8/1822 Fosdyke son of Ann Blanchard
so he was born illegitimate

Ann Blancher (here the spelling changes) married William Moore 5/5/1823 Fosdyke so the likelihood is that William is the father of John and explains the adoption of Moore in 1871 and John's son Wiliam using Moore as a Middle name
But why Annie should give fathers name as William when John was alive and kicking into 1901 I dont know
Will leave it now until Ela returns to comment

well done gillian - what a fantastic bit of detective work

GillianMac

GillianMac Report 24 Dec 2009 18:21

Thanks Cagsie but there is still the Ann Blancher who married Uriah Wiles 1880 Sleaford -if she turns out to be the daughter of John and Rebecca the whole house of cards collapses!

Gillian, and all,
Thank you for your time, the Blanchard story is the one I have been down before, it just does not feel right , but it might be,
I am just about to read through all the things you have found,
I found someone on this site who has the Ann Blancher to Uriah Wiles marriage in 1880, she is not my Great grannie annie Moore, but he does not have her parents, I was hoping that might sort out the Blanchard theory , or prove it,
I will be back shortly, stay with me, please,,,,,,,,
Elaine.

Hope this makes sense,
I wondered were William Moore ,
the father named on Annie Moore's marriage cert in 1875 to Thomas Chambers Exton, where is was in say 1871, 1861,and if he had a daughter named Annie Moore, aged abt 5 yrs in 1861 and 15 yrs in 1871,
does that make sense ......
what I'm trying to say is can William be found that will give a link ????
Elaine.
