Hi Rose thank you for your very kind offer of help. I am really stuck on this side of my family so anything will be gratefully received.

My Gt grandfather George Edward Stacey dob 1/11/1851 - father George Edward Stacey mother Ann(e) Stevens of 1 Canton Terrace Hoxton Old Town. 1861 Census was in Shoreditch Industrial School together with his brother and sister Walter and Ellen.

After that nothing about him until he reappeared on the 1891 census married to Susan Sarah Pascoe working as a sugar refiner. They married 20/3/1890 living at 29 Ordanance Road, Canning Town Susan died 13/2/1909 also Canning Town.

They had 2 children George Charles dob1892 and my grandfather Herbert Cecil dob 5.7.1894. My grandfather was sent the Australia sometime between 1901 and 1916 when he joined the Australia Army (I have all his army records).

Any information on my gt gt grandfather George Edward Stacey - I have no birth details and I cannot find him on any census, I cannot find a marriage certificate, death certificate (I know it must have been sometime between 1854 and when Ann died in 1859) I have no idea where he was born. He was in the Royal Navy and also a Publican at sometime.

Also on gt grandather George Edward where he went to after 1861 when he was in the Inudstrial School.

Anything at all would be a great help as I am on the verge of closing down this side of the family as I just don't know where else to look.

Happy New Year to you.

With kind regards

Jill

Gavin I have had a look at Aust' passenger records but not found anything , there are two possible births in the 1920s , nothing on the Aus cemetery list on Ancestry ....

plenty of William McLennans showing in Aus phone book ...but other than that I am stumped I am afraid....unless you can find someone local to Westcliff who might know?

And Gavin No2 has a thread too. Quite an object lesson in the problem isn't it??

http://www.genesreunited.com.au/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1195610

How about it Gavin, is it fair to the people in that thread and to Rose in this thread to break the rule against posting the same subject more than once and invite Rose to do the same thing you are inviting other people to spend their own time helping you withso everybody can just do what somebody else has already done? My stars you haven't even answered the people who replied to you there.

Everybody's question here is important to them and everybody's time is important to them too.

If it is possible to help you with that search Gavin someone will do it in your thread. This isn't a 'lookup' it is a possibly insoluble mystery!

Hi,

I don't know if you will be able to help me, but I am looking for my biological Father.

All I know is his name (William McLennan) and that he lived in the Westcliff on Sea/Southend on Sea area of Essex around 1962-65. Apparently he worked for Provident and was 'quite a bit older' than my Mum who was born in 1943. There is also a suggestion that he may have emigrated to Australia sometime after 1964.

I would be grateful for any help you can give.

many thanks,

Gavin

Just a hint, you could add that request about duplication to your opening post because I don't think people adding to lookup threads read beyond that one, lol.

Rambling Report 30 Dec 2009 20:29

Thankyou for that Bruce...I have sent David some of the info that Sylvia has added to that thread I see... but will add to it to let her know i found some more of family.

Please if you do want a look up, let me know if someone else has found any info , I may well look at it anyway, but at least it provides a 'double check'.

chrissiex Report 30 Dec 2009 18:19

Ah Rose this is the constant problem with lookup threads.

Dorothy has an entire thread about her Wild/Batchelor/Batch batch where I did my own level best

http://www.genesreunited.com.au/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1195022

As does David about his Skinners started less than an hour before his post here and from a quick glance it seems that Sylvia (in Canada) has worked her heart out on it and found some of his answers anyway

http://www.genesreunited.com.au/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=1195472

So unfair to you and the people in the other threads, maybe you would like to say in your opening post that people should not duplicate this way.

Also lookups are lookups and not usually the same as puzzle-solving.

Hi Rose,
Many thanks for offering.
Would really appreciate any info on Edward Skinner b @ 1816 in Lingfield. Eldest son of John (b 1783) and Elizabeth (b 1791) Skinner. Believe he may have had a daughter Mary Ann (b @ 1856 and may have been living in Enfield in 1901.
Also Peter Charles Skinner (b 1824 my gggrandfather) m Elizabeth Grace Brunt 1850. Elizabeth G died in1864 but I can find no information on Peter Charles after the birth of my ggrandfather William Henry in 1853.
Any info would be very much appreciated as I live in New Zealand.
Thanks
David Skinner

She was married in 1848 in NZ, unfortunately they dont included parents names before 1870.

Rambling Report 30 Dec 2009 00:08

Hi Dorothy I see her on the 1841 as you say, have you found her marriage certificate? was that here or in NZ?

Dorothy

Dorothy Report 29 Dec 2009 23:47

Thank you for the offer, and hope you can help me. I'm looking for a birth for Elizabeth Wild Batchelor, b 1830/32, somewhere in UK. I have her in the 1841 census, aged 9 living with Henry Blatch and his wife Sarah nee Batchelor. In 1847 they immigrated to New Zealand, but it seems Elizabeth returned to Uk prior to her death around 1890/5. She was married to William Monson. I'm stuck, I cant find who her parents were. Some suggest she was Sarahs illigitemate daughter, but Henrys mother was a Wild, so that suggests she came from the Blatch side.
Thanks
Dorothy
