Hi - More look- up requests for my grt aunt Jane Edmonds please and her brother William in 1911

Jane Blake ( Susannah Jane ) b 1860 in Camberwell
James Blake (Frederick James) b 1862 in Shirley, Surrey
Herbert Blake b 1892 Croydon
Maud Blake b 1894 Croydon

In 1901 they were living in Hammersmith in Grove Mews and William has stables and is a cab proprieter

Jane's brother William Frank Edmonds b 1862 Newington
Anne b 1961 Upper Norwood, Surrey
Children Lillian Rose 1884, George 1891, Florence 1894 and Ethel 1896 - all born in Norwood, Surrey

In 1901 they were living in Victory Place, Norwood, Surrey and William is a coachman

If anyone could find out where they were in 1901 or if some of the children were then married I would be very grateful and details of marriage and children born within the marriages.

Jane also had a son Frederick W Blake b 1884 in Croydon who was with his grandfather George Edmonds in Croydon in 1901workiing as a baker in the family business- I cant find any definate records of him after that so if anyone can find him as well that would be great

Thanks alot - I have alot of faith in you guys x

Absolutely Andrew

But I can see whoever transcribed the names for Ancestry thinking that Susannah's surname could be Edwards.

The address ties the 3 baptisms to the 1861 census anyway.

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 28 Dec 2009 15:26

I've just looked at the image for the baptisms. All 3 November.

In order they are:

Mary Anne (b. 4 Oct 1861) looks like Edmonds
George (b. 1 Feb 1859) - to me it looks like Edmonds but the M is a bit squashed so someone could read that as a W.
Susannah Jane (b. 23 Feb 1860) - looking at that one in isolation it looks like Edwards - but taking into account the other two baptisms it is Edmonds. It's on the top of the right hand page (double-page spread) and the other two entries are at the bottom of the left hand page.

Rosie Report 28 Dec 2009 15:19

Do you think that Edmonds was mistranscribed as Edwards on Jane's baptism or am I having one of my days!

Marriage for George and Mary Ann is correct

Just ignore this - I didnt think it sent the first one!

Jill 2011 (aka Warrior Princess of Cilla!) Report 28 Dec 2009 15:17

If the information was given verbally it's possible that the vicar/clerk or whoever wrote it down wrote it down incorrectly.

It's also possible that the vicar made a rough note at the time of the baptisms and then copying it out tidily later couldn't read the handwriting.

Either way they are very similar names.

Do you think that Edmonds has been mistranscribed as Edwards or am not thinking straight - must be the sun!

Back to that 1861 again -

William Case - aged 19 - shows as a servant, baker's assistant. He was born in Dorset - Wootton Fitzhaine(?).

Mary Ann (wife) was born in the same place - and I found this marriage:

Marriages Mar 1858 (>99%)
CASE Mary Ann Camberwell 1d 496 Scan available - click to view
DOUSE Jane Dorcas Camberwell 1d 496 Scan available - click to view
DURRANT John James Camberwell 1d 496 Scan available - click to view
EDMONDS George Camberwell 1d 496 Scan available - click to view

Will go and rummage in Ancestry parish records to see if I can spot it there to confirm George's occupation etc.

Didn't think the 1861 girl was correct but could not spot the 1860 child, so posted the 1861 for you to eliminate her!
