Thanks for all the info, I found the marriage to Richard, but could only find a couple of marriages of a Sarah Brown and a Sarah Fletcher, both to a Richard Jones in Ludlow. But I am sure that is her in 1861, thankyou. I'll look for a marriage to Edward now.

I think this might be it:

Sarah Thomas and Edward Jones Dec 1/4 1857 6a 1059

Just to complicate things! Sarah born c1836 Cleobury North so worth considering. The infant is a girl so could be the daughter in 1871.

How about freebmd? Fits with name of her other children:

Marriages Jun 1864 (>99%)
Jones Sarah Ludlow 6a 1009
Lloyd Richard Ludlow 6a 1009

Familysearch has this:

RICHARD LLOYD

Spouse: SARAH JONES

20 JUN 1864 Stoke Saint Milborough, Shropshire, England

I did notice the age variation for John, but have come across this many times so in itself doesn't signify much I think. It's hard to put yourself in their shoes, isn't it - almost certainly illiterate, never bothering about their ages normally I imagine!

Yes, thank you for your help Jan

Finding her in 1881 is a good nights work. Did you notice her father Richard is 32 in 1871 and 0nly 38 in 1881! ha! perhaps they couldn't count? lol.

All I need do now, is find her parents marriage. I'll have to find time to go back to Shrewsbury and see if I can find a baptism in Stoke-St Milborough parish to clarify the birth.

Thanks again
Dee

Well, I suppose the only answer is to get the birth cert, but as it won't really tell you much more, I'd save my money - at least we found her 1881!

She is 46 in 1911 so that ties-in

She is 40 in 1901

Well, it's a theory! It fits with given age at death. How about other censuses and marriage?

I am with you now.
the 1871 should read Ellen age 6 and Matilda 7 months? Then Ellen would be born around 1865

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 19 Jan 2010 23:27

It's possible the 1871 ages were mixed up maybe? They would have been registered Ludlow:

Births Sep 1870 (>99%)
Lloyd Matilda Ludlow 6a 554

Births Mar 1865
Lloyd Ellen Ludlow 6a 543

This would match later ages for Ellen perhaps.

Do you think Ellen could have been registered as Helen at birth? I haven't looked for that

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 19 Jan 2010 23:21

where are my manners, sorry.
Thank you Brummiejan,
I searched for Richard and couldn't find him, but I didn't try Loyd

Sarah I think, was married before as there are two children Walter Jones and Mary Ann Jones in 1871. I have no idea as to her maiden name

brummiejan Report 19 Jan 2010 23:19

Why thank you! Just looked for Richard and hoped for the best. Needs a lot of imagination this one. I have a family who mixed up all the children's birthplaces so an age swop is quite possible, especially as someone else was recording the details.

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 19 Jan 2010 23:16

How did you find that! That is definately them as Matilda is 6 in 1871

brummiejan

brummiejan Report 19 Jan 2010 23:13

This might be them Wife has birthplace as Cleobury Mortimer, as in 1871 - she is older than him too

1881 England Census

Name: Richard Loyd
Age: 38
Estimated birth year: abt 1843
Relation: Head
Spouse's name: Sarah
Gender: Male
Where born: Stanton Lacey, Shropshire, England

Civil parish: Aston Botterell
County/Island: Shropshire

Street Address: Aston Cottage
Condition as to marriage: Married

Occupation: Waggoner (Ag Lab)

Sub-registration district: Stottesden

Richard Loyd 38
Sarah Loyd 44
Hellen Loyd 16
Metilda Loyd 10
Elizabeth Loyd 5
Sarah Loyd 2

Sorry about the birth, point taken. I think maybe the Ellen/Hellen and Matilda above have ages reversed?

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 19 Jan 2010 23:13

Why this couple lied about ages all the time, I do not know. They married in 1887 and she was 24 - making her born 1863?

He was 28 making him born in 1859. but on 1891 and 1901 he is 35 and 45 making him born in 1856

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥

♥Deetortrainingnewfys♥ Report 19 Jan 2010 23:03

Yes, I saw that one, but 1869? she would have been a year old by the time of 1871 census
