Frances Report 22 Jan 2010 11:29

In 1898 Clara Leonora Leach married John William Craven in Bradford.
From the 1901 single line census I have found a Clara Craven 1868 and John Craven 1862 both in Heysham. She was born in Liverpool, which the census also confirms.
Please can anybody tell me if the are living together married and are there any children. I cannot see them at all in the 1911.

Many thanks,
Frances

Thanks for that. If they are the right couple they must have had their children before getting married or could it have been his second marriage - hmmmm

Hi Frances
On the 1901 census shown by Dee and Andy;
John is a warp dresser and they live at 2 Hampton Rd Heysham.
The three children were all born in Bradford.
They are described as sons and daughter. I see from your thread that John and Clara married in 1898.
I will have a peek on the 1911
Regards Joan

Frances

Frances
I have looked at the lancashire bmd and put in CRAVEN birth mmn LEACH.
It shows up an ALFRED CRAVEN mmn LEACH b 1901 Heaton district and registered Preston.( on Dee's 1901 the sub reg dist, is Heaton.)
On free bmd there is a birth of Alfred Craven sept 1901 Lancaster.
This may be another child.
Good luck
Joan

Thanks Joan, I also found Alfred 1901 and Lucille 1903 but only Alfred shows up in 1911 so presumably not the same one. I think the whole family has opted out of the 1911 - perhaps they emigrated, or were on holiday in the Isle of Man........

Joan

Joan Report 22 Jan 2010 12:23

Hi
A Lucille Craven b 1903 Lancaster has the mmn ATKINSON.
PS. Isle of Man is a lovely place to take a holiday !

Did they turn up later in your searches which will help us find them in 1911 ?

Hi Joan,
Clara Leonora was my mother's aunt but my mother never spoke of her so I only know what I have found by research.

Hi Frances

Frank Craven (John William and Betsy's second son) was my grandfather and I have been trying to research the family over the last year but it is so difficult with so many Craven's in that area of Yorkshire.

The reason you can't find them in the 1911 census is because they emigrated to Australia. I am not sure of the date but have been told by my father that it was around 1905, but I have not yet found them on any passenger lists but will keep digging.

Dee is correct, Clara was his second wife, Betsy his first. I am not sure if you know this but Clara was actually his cousin.

I have a copy of their marriage certificate which I can email you if you like.

I'm having trouble finding John William's birth certificate so if anyone can help on that I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks

Natasha

Natasha,

Frances's post was a year ago - she might not be checking the boards any more. If you click on her name, you can send her a message via GR - they will advise her by email, assuming she still has the same email address.

There are a couple of possible births on freebmd:

Births Mar 1859 (>99%)
CRAVEN John William Bradford Yk 9B 164

Births Dec 1860 (>99%)
CRAVEN John William Bradford Yk _b 8 - the image says 9b 107

There is also this one, but possibly a bit late:

Births Dec 1861 (>99%)
CRAVEN John William Bradford 9b 113

What is John's father's name and occupation (from John's marriage cert)?

Natasha

Natasha Report 9 Jan 2011 13:04

Hi Potty

Thanks, I didn't think of that so I have messaged Frances.

His father's name was William and he was a stuff manufacturer in 1898 which was the time of John's second marriage and he was deceased. In 1890 when he married Betsy, William's profession is Manufacturer's Manager

Thanks for the birth info, I will look into them.

Thanks again

Natasha
