I did wonder if Jack Buckland was actually JOHN Buckland.

Jack is a common "nickname" for John

When looking last night, I couldn't find any Jack Bucklands thta seemed to be of an age to have a child old enough to marry in 1916, but there were lots of John's.

I strongly suggest that you buy that marriage certificate.

It will tell you how old William was in 1916 (or how old he said he was!!), his occupation at that time, his father's name (Jack vs John), and an address.

The certificate weill cost £7, money well spent in my opnion to solve at least part of the problem.

the marriage cert is on its way
i did manage to find williams death record earlier, he died in 1979 in thorpe bay southend on sea its states his birthday is 02/feb/ 1897 but looking up his birth record no one with that name was born in that year
so all i can do now is wait for the cert and hopefully it can fill in the gaps

i think your right regarding doreen my nan said she remembered going to her wedding and believed it was between 1945 and 1951 but that was all you could give me

It's got to be him Kirsten. The Yeoman Gaoler was the 2nd in charge and carried the battleaxe as his badge of office. There would only be one Yeoman Gaoler at a time. And how many Bucklands would be a Yeoman at the Tower?

Sorry, I meant Francis & Bessie. Named him after his brother. Both Kenneth & Trevor registered at Southend. Isn't that were WH Buckland's death was registered?

Info from the GRO-index:

Births
Francis W Buckland 1918q1 Godstone 2a 310
Florence M Buckland 1920q2 Godstone 2a 502
Lillian M Buckland 1922q1 Farnham 2a 268
Kenneth R Buckland 1926q1 Woolwich 1d 1669
Doreen E Buckland 1928q4 Gravesend 2a 1033

Doreen E Buckland Richard J Cane 1949q3 Stepney 5d 1537
Arthur L Buckland Jean M Xxxx 1951q1 Southwark 5d 1405

Kenneth R Buckland Eunice A Xxxxxxx 1969q2 Stepney 5e 183

We can search the local indices for Tower Hamlets at:
http://www.thbmd.co.uk/
Unfortunately, there's no marrs online past 1900.

This is the sort of record I can get from them:
1 1857 Eliza J BUCKLAND /C82 23/10/
2 1857 George A TILLY /C82 23/10/
Now the marr of Eliza Jane and George Augustus is in the IGI:
20 AUG 1857 Saint Dunstan, Stepney, London, England
[Don't know that this Buckland is anything to do with ours - just needed some name for example]

So we can infer register C82 is St Dunstan. Some local ROs have a web page listing their registers (e.g., S Tyneside), and some incorporate the info into their display (e.g., lancashirebmd).
I was hoping to see if the register code for Ken R's two marrs was the same.
It's not clear how many Ken's there are.

Cane-Buckland kids
There were 3 Cane-Buckland marrs (although Doreen's spouse is transcribed as Cave in index).
Douglas-Peggy wed at Tonbridge, Albert-Winifred wed at Hammersmith.
There are 2 kids b at Tonbridge 1947q4, 1951q3 and 2 at Hammersmith 1948q1, 1950q4, so it looks like none for Doreen-Richard

[Fuller details pm'ed to Kirsten]
EDIT Just read recent posts, and I guess it's clear there's 2 Kens.
