I've come across several examples where May and Margery were used interchangeably in 19th cent Aberdeenshire. I had heard that, more generally, May was regarded as a pet form for Margery and Margaret, but I've come across no other instances of this.
(Bit vague - sorry abt that)

You've got to have stuffed up on your dates to think a 4 y o boy is writing love letters to an 8 y.o. girl who's in service in 1911.

9 seems a little young to be in service. 12 or 13 would be more likely.
