Hi Everyone

My Grandma's maiden name was Wagstaff, I know her mother's line sometime ago was Dyson.

Does this fit with anyone else? If so would love to hear from you.

Hi. A couple of suggestions. Why not put her name into the search box above to see if there are any connections on this site?

Also, if you post some details, someone may be able to help you. Regards. Cx.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for your responses, the only date I have is Hilda Wagstaff was born 04.02.1921 in Romiley Cheshire or Stockport.

Her parents were Wagstaff and Possibly Dyson, or Dyson may be anoher generation removed.

Best regards
Rachael

Madmeg,

I really appreciate your help. DOn't know if it would assist if I told you Hilda married Cecil Chiverton on the Isle of Wight (I think).

Trying to find out about Hilda's side as she has lost contact with everyone and now has Dementia, so makes finding out information difficult.

Thanks for your help

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 21 Feb 2010 20:21

Rachael, you have misunderstood what I sent you. This is the likely birth of Hilda Wagstaff, with mothers maiden name Dyson. Seems 99.9% likely to be her. The registration of a birth would not include details of anything other than the child's parents and possible address at birth (thought that might be a hospital).

It is nothing to do with who else is living there.

Using what I have posted, you can send for this birth certificate and determine who her parents were, and perhaps where they lived at the time, though this might just say "Romiley".

Oops I posted the birth twice, but also a likely marriage of a Wagstaff to a Dyson, but to be sure it is the right couple, you would need to buy Hilda's birth certificate first.

Brilliant, thanks for your help

This is the marriage of Hilda and Cecil:

England & Wales, Marriage Index: 1916-2005
about Hilda Wagstaff
Name: Hilda Wagstaff
Spouse Surname: Chiverton
Date of Registration: Jan-Feb-Mar 1945
Registration district: Stockport

Spouse is Cecil H Chiverton.

He might have been from the Isle of Wight, but they didn't marry there.

Madmeg Report 21 Feb 2010 20:33

Thinking again, you probably don't need Hilda's birth cert. It seems pretty obvious who her parents were.

The marriage of Hilda and Cecil will give you his father, but hang on, cos I might find that in the Isle of Wight.

Madmeg Report 21 Feb 2010 20:38

Yep, here is Cecil's birth on the Isle of Wight:

Name: Cecil H Chiverton
Mother's Maiden Surname: Brown
Date of Registration: Apr May Jun 1920

Having gladly found all that, do you want to now research further yourself, cos I don't want to spoil your fun. Or would you like me (and others who are no doubt keeping an eye on your thread) to carry on with more?

Best wishes

Margaret

I would love to take over, but work is preventing me from doing too much at the moment.

Your help is gratefully appreciated as without it I would be getting nowhere.

Thankyou

Ooh, that is great news to me Rachael. Bored out of my skull at the moment, and I live in the Stockport area.

Madmeg

Madmeg Report 23 Feb 2010 01:51

Reddish and Romiley are adjacent. Odd that Reddish is classed as Lancashire. Maybe my history of the area ain't so tip-top. Stockport is Cheshire. They are all in the same area anyway.
