Would anyone be able to help me with finding deaths for a Locock couple? I have Phillippa Locock, married to Henry Locock. They lived in the Devon area. They married in 1856 in Plymouth. Henry, Phillippa and their son Henry are down in the 1861 census, and in the 1871 census Phillippa is living with her mother, Henry (her son) and two other children Alfred and James. I don't know if Henry has passed by then? I cannot find a death year for Phillippa or Henry. Any help is much appreciated! xx

The John Laker with uncle Walter Rapley and his mother Ann in 1871 appears to be the son of this marriage of John Laker to Agnes Rapley.

Marriages Mar 1861 (>99%)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bowley Elizabeth Horsham 2b 319
Laker John Horsham 2b 319
Parsons James Horsham 2b 319
Rapley Agnes Horsham 2b 319

In 1841 Richard Rapley 45, Ann 40, and children Walter, George, Catherine, Edwin, Alfred, Emma and Agnes are together.

Walter Rapley did not marry, so this is a pretty safe bet as to who the John was living with him.

However, it doesn't tell us that it is your John Laker at all, or is even the same one as you found in 1881 with his mother Ann (not Agnes).

No, he isn't the same as the one in 1881, cos he's here with his parents:

1881 England Census
about Agnes Laker
Name: Agnes Laker
Age: 42
Estimated birth year: abt 1839
Relation: Sister
Gender: Female
Where born: West Grinstead, Sussex, England

Civil parish: Beckenham
County/Island: Kent
Country: England

Street Address: 120 Alexandra Cottages
Condition as to marriage: Married
Education:

Employment status: View image
Occupation: Clerk

Registration district: Bromley
Sub-registration district: Bromley
ED, institution, or vessel: 8
Neighbors: View others on page
Household Members: Name Age
James Laker 44
John Laker 44 Brother
Agnes Laker 42 Sister (but she is Sister in law)
Charles Laker 19 All nephews and nieces
John Laker 17
Agnes Laker 16
Elizabeth Laker 12
Ann Laker 9
Emma Laker 6
James Laker 3
Rosa Laker

The only way of being sure you are chasing the correct John Laker is to get the married certificate to the mother of Emily Laker, which will give his father's name and occupation. Then we can look for the right person.

I am looking for John Laker's, father of Emily Laker, parents. He was born in Henfield Sussex in 1865. I found a John Laker born in Shoreham Sussex (which looks close to Henfield) in the 1881 census. If he is the right one, he is living with his mother Ann (born 1831 in Shoreham) and his siblings Jesse and Daniel. I have found him on the 1871 census as living with his uncle and grandmother. I have no idea of how to find his father! Please could anyone help?

Congratulations!

It does sometimes worry people that they think they are responding to a particular person, and then another person pops up and seems to be in charge.

Yes I'm the same Vicki, I just changed my name when I got married :) sorry if it's confusing, I've been shouted at before for opening new threads instead of using my old ones! x

I am looking for Alfred's parents' marriage if anyone can help? His father is called Henry Locock (born 1832) and his wife is Phillippa. They have very possibly married in the Devon/Cornwall area. I am struggling to find a marriage for them, so I would be very grateful if anyone can help? xx
